Key concept that should be noted: we raised money by way of a SALES TAX, not an income tax. Much better to be taxed on what you buy than what you earn. You don’t want to pay the penny sales tax? Buy less or don’t buy within the city limits, at least you have an option. Too many democrats want to raise income taxes which is ridiculous on any level.

The 1% is one of the greatest things we have done as citizens. We took a vote and said we to improve our infrastructure. Not everything in the city is about the Thunder or Bricktown. It seems a lot of people focus just on those two attractions. I salute Mayor Cornett, Humphreys, and most of all Norick. These men have not lost focus or had tunnel vision, but seen the end state of where OUR city should be. Every city should be so lucky to have our citizens and great leadership.

Sadly what Mayor Corbett didn’t or rather couldn’t say, with the risk of being booed off the stage, is that all these infrastructure projects that were paid for with cash was the OKC MAPS sales tax of 1% not private investment that built Bricktown, the AAA baseball stadium, the Chesapeake Area without which there would be bo OKC Thunder, the new convention center and the new public Park.

Yes, we “paid cash” – by raising taxes. Funny how Mr. Cornett didn’t mention that.

Raising taxes for community investments and infrastructure works. Now the key is to try to get more people involved in the process earlier so the projects are truly what is best for the citizens, not just what a few people want – like a new costly convention center, which I think is an expensive less necessary addition.
