Rob Wallace, a Democrat running for Congress in eastern Oklahoma, is taking a page from U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s playbook in his first ad, showing, with a rifle shot, his support of gun rights and his opposition to Texans buying Oklahoma water.
Manchin, the former Democratic governor of West Virginia, ran an ad in his 2010 Senate campaign in which he shot a copy of cap-and-trade legislation to show his feelings for a bill that would have hurt his state’s coal industry. Manchin won the Senate seat.
Wallace’s ad shows him shooting a map of Texas on a water bottle to protest the efforts by some in that state to purchase water from Oklahoma.
Wallace, of Fort Gibson, is hoping to replace Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee, in Congress. Boren is a strong supporter of gun rights and has served on the board of the National Rifle Association.
