U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas gets challenger

William Stump, 45, of Drumright filed Friday against U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas for the third congressional district.

Lucas had been the only congressman without an opponent until Stump filed this afternoon.

Stump considers himself a constitutional conservative. While he thinks Lucas’ voting record is fine, he isn’t satisfied with the way he’s supported his district.

Lucas, who chairs the House agriculture committee, focuses too much on agriculture while ignoring the needs of the oil industry which also plays a key role in the district, Stump said.

“I’ll be dedicated to the people,” Stump said. “If you’re not in the state, then you’re not taking care of business.”
