During the campaign, it was consistently mentioned that 57 miles of trails would be built (but often in conjunction with the statement that it would complete/virtually complete/all but complete the Trail master Plan).

Then after the vote, it was revealed in a Council meeting by the head of the Parks Dept, that even after the 57 miles of MAPS 3 trails were completed, there would still be about 60 miles of the Trails Master plan still to go. A couple of Council members were caught by surprise by this and asked if they understood him correctly. This 60 miles of unfinished Trails amounts to a $40M “mistake”. Now others have said they don’t care about that, as long as we get the 57 miles promised they will be happy with it.

Now we find out that because of the rising cost of oil (and in turn asphalt) we may only get 32 miles. Might be better to delay the construction of the trails until the next low spot in oil/asphalt prices or maybe use a different material that isn’t as cost volatile.
