I'm not as troubled by Mary Fallin staying in Washington DC to vote on a bill as I am by her possibly becoming the next governor of Oklahoma. For that matter, ANY Republican holding the reigns of significant power these days troubles me greatly. Why? Let me count the ways: 1. Seperation of church and state (a topic not spoken of much lately). Whether they admit it or not, most Republicans, and probably a few Democrats, are in the hip pockets of the Religious Right (remember them?). I don't want the government interfering with my right to worship according to the dictates of my conscience, nor do I want the church (mine or anyone else's) interfering with my right to be free from their legislated dogmas. Remember: It's righteousness by faith, not by legislation. 2. I don't want my health care issues decided by for-profit entities (insurance companies). Universal health care as a voluntary option would be a huge blessing. 3. Do we always want to be known as non-thinking "mavericks" who seem to long for the lawless, everyone-look-out-for-their-own days of the old west? It's one thing to be truely independant, quite another to want virtual anarchy because we have a phobia about anything related to government. 4. The government provides some pretty good services (schools, infrastructure, law enforcement, so on). Let's pay our taxes and quit the griping. 5. Those who are here illegally need to face the consequences for sure. In the process, let's not throw out the values that make people want to come to our country in the first place. Let's not become the evil that we fear so much! Thanks you.

Fallin did not cast her vote in the Oklahoma primary, according to het Facebook site. Fallin had to fly to Washington D.C. to vote on emergency funding for troops in Afghanistan. Should she have planned ahead for political emergencies by voting through absentee ballot?
