Thompson Sets Pace in 5th District Money Chase
State Rep. Mike Thompson raised the most money in the last three months on the Republican side of the 5th District congressional race, while Democrat Billy Coyle made an aggressive run for his primary.
Thompson raised $189,641 from April 1 through July 7. He also took the lead in total raised since the race began, topping $910,000.
Upstart GOP candidate James Lankford raised $142,407 in the last quarter and has now raised a total of nearly $377,000. Kevin Calvey raised $116,242 and has now raised $879,600. Calvey had the most money in the bank on July 7, with $325,440.
State Rep. Shane Jett had a good quarter, raising $110,099.
Coyle raised $106,104 for his race against Tom Guild, who raised nearly $70,000.
The 5th District seat is being vacated by Rep. Mary Fallin, the Oklahoma City Republican who is running for governor.
None of the challengers in the other four districts made much of a showing.
U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn’s receipts topped $430,000, and he had more than $1.8 million in the bank.
