Inhofe meets with Gen. Petraeus

Sen. Jim Inhofe, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, met today with Army Gen. David Petraeus, who has been tapped by President Barack Obama to take over U.S. command in Afghanistan in the wake of the interview controversy involving Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

Inhofe, R-Tulsa, said after the meeting, “I support the nomination of U.S. Gen. David Petraeus to replace U.S. Gen. Stanley McChrystal.
“General Petraeus is a highly intelligent and highly capable commander, and I commend him for his great success and job well done during his leadership and service in Iraq. Anytime there is a change of command, there is an opportunity to fine-tune the approaches and strategies being used on the ground. After meeting with him in my office this morning, I know that is his plan going forward. If anyone can take control of the effort in Afghanistan and see it through to a successful completion, General Petraeus is that person.”
