Republican Party chairman steps down to run

Gary Jones confirmed to Capitol reporter Michael McNutt today that he would step down as Republican Party chairman to run against Democrat Steve Burrage for State Auditor and Inspector.

Jones filed for the office at the last minute on Wednesday. He ran unsuccessfully for the office in 2002 and 2006.

Angie La Plante, who works for Republican Rep. Ken Miller and is the party’s vice chairman, will serve as the interim chair.
