Republican party chairman jumps into state auditor race
Republican Party Chairman Gary Jones has filed for State Auditor and Inspector. Jones, who ran for the office in 2002 and 2006, filed his candidate papers in the final hour of filing today.
Jones said made the decision in the last day of filing. He says the Republican party is strong in the state and the committee that oversees the Republican party will decide whether to keep Jones as the chairman, he said.
Another Republican, David Hanigar, has also filed for the office. Whoever wins the race between Jones and Hanigar will challenge Democrat Steve Burrage. Burrage was appointed to the office and is running to retain the seat.
