Details are trickling out on budget agreement
As lawmakers emerged from caucus meetings this afternoon, details about the budget agreement are emerging. Most state agencies were cut 7 percent, much less than the 10 percent originally feared.
Education also sustained cuts. Gov. Brad Henry had proposed minimal cuts. Republican leaders said everyone needed to “share in the pain.”
No formal announcement on the budget has been made yet. The Senate passed a measure that put a 2-year moratorium on 30 tax credits that will bring in about $25.7 million. There was little opposition, as opposed to a bill yesterday on suspending tax credits that prompted nearly an hour of debate on the Senate floor.
