Senate staff could see furloughs

Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn Coffee says Senate staff should be prepared for furlough days after the legislative session ends.

During a media availability today, Coffee said furlough days and voluntary buyout packages may be part of cost-cutting measures for Senate staff. Coffee said conversations are ongoing .

“Will we have furloughs? Yes. How many days? I’m not prepared to say at this point. We’re going to have to look at all our options,” Coffee said.

Coffee said buyout plans will be considered but he does not see any plans for reductions in force at this point.

Complimentary coffee and tea service offered to lawmakers may also end with the cost cutting measures, Coffee said.
