Six U.S. states have passed laws to restore adult adoptees access to their original birth certificate. This legislation is strongly supported by the Child Welfare League of America. “Sealed records” in adoption creates an environment for unethical practices and gross conflict of interest in a money-driven, unregulated industry. It is time for OK to look past the “myths” keeping these records sealed and do what is right.
