Too much traffic in Edmond
Drivers, who sit through three green lights at 33rd Street and Broadway before it is their time to turn, aren’t alone. There are 70,968 drivers trying to make their way through this intersection each day.
That would equal 85 percent of Edmond population at one congested intersection over a 24-hour period.
The second busiest intersection in Edmond is just a mile north at 15th Street and Broadway. City officials calculate 60,586 vehicles drive that intersection in a 24-hour period.
The third busiest intersection is Second Street and Bryant Avenue with 50,606 vehicles.
Traffic problems in Edmond are always at the top of the list of complaints. City officials are looking at installing an Intelligent Transportation System, a traffic light synchronization system. They said it would help with traffic problems all over town.
The cost is $7 million. Council members will see if they can come up with the money for the project when they begin budget talks at 2 p.m. Feb. 24.
