Senate honors President Reagan

A resolution passed Tuesday states President Reagan was “a man of humble background, and worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good.”  In addition, “Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as the fortieth President of the United States of America, the second of which earned him the confidence of three-fifths of the electorate and victory in forty-nine of the fifty states in the general election — a record unsurpassed in the history of American presidential elections.”

Senate Concurrent Resolution 48 commends Reagan’s “vision of ‘peace through strength’ [that] led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for millions of people.”

Today is Reagan’s birthday. He would have been 97.
