A Visual Comparison

This weekend the photo staff covered a number of sporting events. I photographed two of them. As I was editing my pictures from the Winstar Casino Invitational PBR tour stop, I kept thinking back to photos from the Perfect 10 Challenge gymnastics event that I covered the night before. Below are some of the similarities I noticed between gymnastics and bull riding.

Left, Oklahoma's Sara Stone competes on the beam during the Perfect 10 Challenge. Right, Justin Koon flies off Sam during the Winstar World Casino Invitational PBR tour

Left, Oklahoma's Madison Mooring puts chalk on her feet before competing on the beam during the Perfect 10 Challenge. Right, Flames pour out of a prop bull's head during the introductions of the Winstar World Casino Invitational PBR tour.

He took some shots of the Spirit Walk from up high before the game as well. Here’s some of Bryan’s pictures from overhead.

Also, check out this gallery with other pictures from The Oklahoman of OSU’s 44-10 win over OU.

Here is a quick glance at 15 touchdowns.

Saturday was a high-scoring day for the OU and OSU football teams. Staff photographers Chris Landsberger, Nate Billings and Bryan Terry traveled to Texas to photograph the Red River Rivalry. The final score was 55-17 in favor of OU. They captured 6 of 7 Oklahoma touchdowns.

Meanwhile, staff photographer Steve Sisney and I traveled to Stillwater to photograph the Oklahoma State v. Kansas game. OSU won, 70-28. We captured 9 out of 11 touchdowns.

High School Football in the light

Those of us who cover sports at The Oklahoman love high school football. We have one major complaint about it, however; most games are played after the sun sets in very dark stadiums. But at the beginning of the season, when the days are longer and the time has yet to change, we get to shoot with natural light at the most beautiful time of day.

Here’s a batch of high school football photos shot while the light is still shining in the evening and one photo from this weekend’s annual Soul Bowl between Millwood and Douglass, which is played in the afternoon.

To see a gallery of Friday’s high school football games, click here. Why not check out the Soul Bowl gallery too while you’re at it?
