Touchdown!

Here is a quick glance at 15 touchdowns.

Saturday was a high-scoring day for the OU and OSU football teams. Staff photographers Chris Landsberger, Nate Billings and Bryan Terry traveled to Texas to photograph the Red River Rivalry. The final score was 55-17 in favor of OU. They captured 6 of 7 Oklahoma touchdowns.

Meanwhile, staff photographer Steve Sisney and I traveled to Stillwater to photograph the Oklahoma State v. Kansas game. OSU won, 70-28. We captured 9 out of 11 touchdowns.

On Saturday, Oklahoman photographer Nate Billings and I traveled to College Station to document what could be Oklahoma State’s last contest against Texas A&M. I produced an audio slide show from our photos and audio I collected during the game.

Here’s a note from Nate Billings about his final trip to Texas A&M for Big 12 football coverage:

It’s a little sad for me to think that I will probably not cover another game at College Station because the Aggies are headed to the SEC. Texas A&M is where I covered my first college football game outside of Oklahoma, 13 years ago, and it is where I have covered the most road games since. I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere and people in Aggieland. This trip was Sarah’s first time there. I’m glad she had a chance to experience a game at Kyle Field before the Aggies leave the Big 12.

Good things happen in threes

As journalists we cover a lot of news. Not all the news is good news, so it is nice when we photograph happy events. Over the weekend, I was able to cover three positive stories. The first was a story on puppy fostering. Who doesn’t like puppies? The second was a story on an Oklahoma soldier who was on a 10-day leave from Afghanistan to see his 5-day old baby. Finally on Saturday, I covered an OU alumni basketball game and took pictures of 84 year old Keith Miller warming up on the court along with other alumni. Miller was on the OU basketball team from 1948 to 1950. It was on his bucket list to suit up for the Sooners once again.

Grassfire claims Edmond homes

Firefighters tried to save George Reich’s home as it was engulfed in flames on Blackjack Lane, Saturday. They ran into his home only to quickly retreat and on their way out grabbed seven family photographs from the hallway wall. They were the only items saved from the home.

I found Reich Sunday morning picking through the rumble searching for anything of value. Oklahoman photography intern Zach Gray and photographer Bryan Terry also met Reich Saturday evening as Blackjack Lane burned.

A day in the life of a snow cone

When photography intern, Garett Fisbeck, and I arrived at the downtown ballpark for a 7 pm Redhawks game it was 108 degrees. It was just a tad cooler than Saturday’s high of 110 degrees.

It was not surprising to find snow cones were a popular concession item. Garett and I decided to document them before they melted.
