In the last 10 days or so, Staff Photographers at The Oklahoman have turned in some nice pictures, not all of which have gotten published in the newspaper. Here’s a few pictures that deserve a second look.

We’ve turned in plenty of photo galleries, that you can see by clicking here, including galleries from the start of the NBA playoffs in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State’s win during the Bedlam baseball series and the Southwest Street Rod Nationals. We’ve also put up a few slideshows recently, including one about sidewalk chalk and one about singers auditioning to sing the National Anthem for the RedHawks.

16th Annual Day of Remembrance

Regina Bonny, of Oklahoma City, spends a moment with a chair dedicated to Shelly Bland during the 16th Annual Day of Remembrance at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. It’s been sixteen years now since the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Every year, survivors, family members, friends, emergency responders and local residents mark the anniversary with a ceremony at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. You can see more images from today’s ceremony by clicking here.

If you missed our coverage last year, take a look at two stories I photographed at the museum. One is about employees and volunteers cleaning the fence outside the memorial, the other is about the archives inside the museum.

Watching the Clouds Go By

The other night I had a few minutes of down time before the start of a high school soccer game that I was shooting at Deer Creek. As I waited for the game to start, my mind began to wonder just like a kid that plays the outfield in t-ball, and I began to notice the very interesting cloud formations that were floating by overhead. In order to not let them go to waste, I grabbed my camera and went to work. Here are a few of the clouds formations I captured. You can see a few more photo in the photo gallery.

Occasionally, we have the opportunity to photograph a unique assignment. Something we’ve never seen before. Staff Photographer Sarah Phipps had that opportunity on Sunday when she covered camel and ostrich races, called Extreme Racing, at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Her pictures tell the story better than I could. Here’s a few, but you can click here to see all eleven pictures that she turned in.
