SKIT NIGHT….Oklahoma City sorority alumni Sonja Pellow and Jackie Jones were at the Delta Delta Delta skit night at the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman. Recruitment week started Friday. Sororities at the University of Oklahoma held skit nights in respective houses last week in preparation for the opening of formal recruitment which began in Norman last Friday. Most groups invited alumni members to view performances.

Potential new members moved in the dormitories Thursday. There were four rounds of parties allowing them to meet sorority women and learn about difference houses and college activities, programs and community service.  Bid Day was August 16th.

OU Club of Oklahoma City meets at RedPin Restaurant and Bowling Lounge

University of Oklahoma alumni and friends, members of the OU Club of Oklahoma City, met for a season kick-off social event. They were at RedPin Restaurant and Bowling Lounge in Bricktown.

40 faithful OU fans attended and were given information about the club’s first golf tournament set for Oct. 11 at the Green’s Country Club. The tournament will raise funds for the club’s scholarship program for local high school students planning to attend OU.

Guests were served appetizers and there were several bowling lanes open for the group.

Michelle Thompson is president of the group.


OU President’s Trophies announced

Jake Elliott, Andrew Welty, Corbin Carter, Chris Frantze, David L. Boren, Amy Gibson were at the ceremony honoring Delta Upsilon members for winning the fraternity President’s Trophy. (Photos provided).

University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren gave the President’s Trophy to the outstanding sorority, fraternity, housing center and commuter students for excellence in academics, campus activities, volunteerism and multicultural participation.

Crimson Club members, an organization of OU student leaders, coordinated the competition.

Winners were: Cate Center, Housing; Delta Delta Delta, Sorority;  Delta Upsilon, Fraternity, Samantha Ali and Niekia Franklin, commuter students. Presidents’ Trophy outstanding commuter student winners were given a trophy and $500., and the President’s Trophy first place organizational winners received a trophy and $5,000.

The competition was established by President Boren and Molly Shi Boren in 1995. Runner-ups were Sooner Housing Center, Pi Beta Phi, Lambda Chi Alpha.

Jill Q. Hughes emailed me and asked us to remind everyone about the Women’s Philanthropy Network luncheon and symposium on November 19th at the University of Oklahoma  Memorial Union in Norman.

Called an “educational and inspirational day celebrating OU Women and honoring those who serve as advocates, leaders and philanthropists,” the event will provide opportunities for participants to connect with  women who share common interests, goals and a passion for OU.

It will be from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and features OU President David Boren, OU women’s basketball coach Sherri Coale and Women’s Philanthropy Institute representative Angela White as guest speakers.

University of Oklahoma fans wear OU colors before, during and after the game

What a weekend! University of Oklahoma- University of Texas in the Cotton Bowl!

There are always fun events and parties during this weekend and some years the celebrating is more fun than other times. Not so much, this year.

However, football fans and alumni enjoyed being at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas. OU staffers planned an Alumni cocktail reception, a President’s Associates brunch and had 13 police-escorted buses reserved for the alums to go to the football game at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.

Our group had lunches and dinners at an Italian Restaurant in the Las Colinas area, Capital Grille, Neiman Marcus Zodiac Room, Omni Mandalay Hotel and corn dogs at the State Fair of Texas. We saw OU fans including David Hogan, June Patton, Marty Conkle, Bette MacKellar, Barbara Beeler, Cindy Homsey, Dana and Chris Gordon, Laurie Givens, Lea Ann and David Quirk, Judi Freyer, Lee-Ann and Stephen Graham, Emily Jacobson,  Joy and Gary Tucker, Stacey Berry, Ann-Shannon and Dave Hail, Jennifer and Dale Thurman and many, many people wearing red and white.

Pattye and Mark Moore were hosts for a reception in the home of Sissy and Dan Tubb.  Alumni of the University of Oklahoma Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication School listened to an update on plans about phase II of Gaylord Hall and were told about the dedication ceremonies which are set for Oct. 13th at 1:30 p.m.

Students from the Gaylord Ambassadors student leadership program and alumni members were guests.

College Dean Joe Foote was speaker and he talked about the new faculty members who were there: John Schmeltzer and Robert “Pritch” Pritchard.

Schmeltzer is the Engleman-Livermore Professor of Community Journalism and Pritchard is faculty advisor to the new student-run Ad and PR firm, L+A Group.

Sissy Tubb is the daughter of Oklahoma fan, the late Cecil Samara, and guests enjoyed seeing her dad’s collection of Sooner memorabilia dating back to the 1950’s including numerous OU buttons, glasses, programs, ticket stubs, footballs, watches, belt buckles and other jewelry.

Women’s Network at OU

Tripp Hall was host in Norman for a meeting to introduce women to the University of Oklahoma Women’s Philanthropy Network. There were also luncheons in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

Hall emphasized that the events were scheduled to celebrate and promote philanthropic education, leadership and advocacy by empowering women to be active participants in the giving process.  OU wants to engage more women in University life.

Hall, Jill Hughes, Les Risser and former student Vice President Tatianna Cannon spoke to the guests.  They asked the group to be network advocates, refer friends, host other events and share stories of personal philanthropy.

University of Oklahoma Vice President Tripp Hall invited a group of women to a luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club to introduce OU’s new Women’s Philanthropy Network.
The group’s mission is to promote philanthropic education, leadership and advocacy and to suggest that women become active participants in the giving process.

Hall, Jill Hughes and Les Risser were speakers and they asked the group to be advocates for WPN and to refer friends and contacts who might want to attend upcoming events.
Among the guests were Liz Coe, Jane Harlow,  Sue Ann Hyde, Linda Rodgers, Suzie Symcox, Candy Dulaney, Lori Hill, Dr. Jenny Hendrick,  Cynda Ottoway, Barbara Thompson, Maria Abbott, Tatianna Cannon, Corey Hyde Blake, Caroline Patton, Laura Gray, Pattye Moore, Linda Haneborg and Sharon Alexander.
Other introductory luncheons will be in  Tulsa and Norman.
