Party-goers enjoyed the early morning breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. It was the 2008 President’s Associates annual Beat Texas Celebration. They left by chartered bus and police escort at 8:30 a.m.

Red and white balloons decorated the room where most everyone wore red and white. Clarke Stroud announced notable guests as they arrived at the party. An OU sales table was set up with more red and white attire  if needed.

A POST GAME PARTY

Dee Dee and Jon Stuart invited friends to the Jade Room of the Hilton Anatole Hotel following the University of Oklahoma-University of Texas football game which was, unfortunately, won by UT.

Jon Stuart is Board of Regents Chairman and the party followed the arrival of the buses back to the Hotel.

The room was decorated in red and white roses and since it was Stuart’s wife’s birthday, a birthday cake was on the menu.

Breast Cancer Fund-Raiser Set—Parties Extra!—October 12, 2008

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, members of the University of Oklahoma Breast Institute board will have a party October 16 from 4 until 7 p.m. at Balliet’s, 50 Penn Place. Lori Hill is OUBI board chairman.

Lots of fall accessories will be shown and wine champagne and appetizers will be served.  There will be special drawings and music.  Tickets are $25. Committee members for the fund raiser are Lil Ross, Charlotte Richels, DeDe Benham and Hill.

Members of the OUBI community advisory board are Kelly Dyer Fry, Jane Austin, DeDe Benham, Nancy Yoch, Martha Williams, Beverly Binkowski, Libby Blankenship, Becky Buchanan, Kathy Williams, Lil Ross, Charlotte Richels, Berta Faye Rex, Elizabeth Coe, Karen Delaney, Kris Frankfurt and Joan Frates.

Society events in Oklahoma—Parties Extra!—October 10, 2008—MOTHERS MEET TO HEAR BALL PLANS

When mothers of the 2008 Beaux Arts Ball debutantes and escorts met October 8 in the home of  Co-Chairman Connell Branan, they received information about the  63rd annual Ball.

The coffee table was decorated with white roses in silver goblets and at the front door were pumpkins and white pansies.
Libby Denner is Ball chairman. On the committee are Denner, Branan, Elain Frogge, Ciane Hogan, Leslie Russell, Laura Kirkpatrick, Kathryn Crabb, Karen Hanstein, Caroline Hendee, Mary FitzSimons, Anne Henderson, Lauren Sullivan, Tricia Law, Bebe MacKellar, Dana Price, Mindy Cunningham,Terri Benear, Tricia Everest, Susan McPherson, Linda James, Shirley Everest, Lisa Pierce and Karen Samis.
The Ball will be at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club on November 29th. Proceeds benefit the  Acquisition Fund at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

Parties Extra!—October 7, 2008—OU Panhellenic Association plans to celebrate 100 years

 PLANNING TO CELEBRATE

University of Oklahoma Panhellenic Centennial Chairman Claire Turmelle had her first planning meeting for OU’s Panhellenic Association’s 100th anniversary.  Kate Stanton was hostess for the event in Norman.

On the committee are representatives from many of the campus sorority houses. They are Stanton, Claire Turmelle, Johnna Austin, Jill Duty, Alissa Myers, Becky Barker, Chris Purcell, Erin Simpson, Helen Woodward, Kari Jacobson and Robin Allen.
The Centennial Celebration will be held April 2009 in conjunction with “Queen for a Weekend”, which is when the National Panhellenic Council delegates and National presidents of OU’s 11 sorority chapters will visit the campus. Tentative date is April 17-19. Ideas from the planning meeting included tree plantings, progressive dinners at the sorority houses, alumni brunch and a fashion show from the decades. The Friday reception for the visitors will be in the stadium suites.

Parties Extra!—October 6,2008—First meeting of Visionary Oklahoma Women

A group called  Visionary Oklahoma  Women (VOW) from the Oklahoma Creativity Project met recently in the home of Meg Salyer.   Film maker David Kennard was guest speaker. He is making a film about creativity.

Guests included Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, Marion DeVore, Bobbie Robbins, Ginny Evans, Jane Thompson, Jenny Dunning, Carol Sorrels, Linda Haneborg, Nancy Leonard, Susan McCalmont, Donna Vogel and Ann Lacy.

Members of one of Oklahoma City’s Dance clubs, the Lotus Club, had their  Fall Dance at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club recently. They met early for cocktails, had a gourmet dinner then and danced.

Country Club.
Program Vice-President Robyn McMillin introduced  Lt. Gov. Jari Askins who talked about her career in politics.

On the menu for the luncheon was Santa Fe chicken, sweet potatoes and pecan pie.

Among those attending were Susan Turpen, Marylin Summers, Carlita Walters, Kay Musser, Sue Goodman, Paula Beverage, Kay Bass and Barbara Brockhaus.

Hostesses Kathy Brown (her home), Shirley Everest, Laurie Givens, Rhonda Hefton, Susan Hoffman, Sue Homsey, Leslie Samara, Lynn Samis, Linda James and Mary Kay Samis entertained for bride-to-be Carter Samis who will marry Fred Fellers in Charleston, S.C. in Nov.


In lieu of place cards, there were silver compacts with guest’s names engraved on them and garden roses, peonies, southern fresh mint and magnolia leaves were used for centerpieces. Tables had cut lace tablecloths and heirloom crystal and china. A southern recipe Spoon bread and chicken was served.

Mother Karen Samis, Sister Katharine Samis and the bride had gardenias at their luncheon places.


Among the guests were Meagan Samis, Lawre Everest,  Ali Justus, Terry Bradley,Gene Barth, ALix Samara, Kristin Carson, Leslie Regens, Abby Lawrence, Jenny Dunning and Linda Duncan.

University of Oklahoma Football Party—Parties Extra!—September 28, 2008—Party Time

HOT TIME IN NORMAN

Some loyal Sooner fans boarded a charter bus at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club for the short ride to Norman and to the University of Oklahoma football game at 6 p.m. September 27.

They had fried chicken box lunches, or sandwiches, and they celebrated the great win over Texas Christian University with a round of cocktails.

The Oklahoma football team ranked # 1 the next day in the Associated Press poll .

The last time the Sooner were #1 was in 2003, where they stayed during the season, before losing in the Big 12 game to Kansas State.

Among those people attending were Andrew Coats, Howard Berry jr. FUN AND FESTIVE…. Dick and Mary Clements and Clara and Van Lafferty were at the downtown Kiwanis Club Inaugural Dinner at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for the installation of new officers. President John Martin recognized members and guests including past presidents. Alton Gardner was installing officer. New officers are President Beverly Woodrome, President-Elect Miki Farris, Secretary Rachael Weber, Treasurer Erin Batey, Vice-Presidents Kyle McLain and Jon Pennington. Judge Noma Gurich was master of ceremonies.

FINE WINE…Amy Dunn, Lana Lopez, Elaine Honig, Hilarie Blaney and Jane Thompson were were at the Chesapeake Boathouse for one of the parties planned during the Wine, Women and Shoes event. The wine tasting party at the Boathouse was called “A Taste of Vino” featuring many of the participating vintners. Dunn, Lopez, Blaney and Thompson were chairmen of the Wine, Women and Shoes event. It was a benefit for Impact Oklahoma and Calm Waters Center for children and families. Honig was the founder of the event now held throughout the United States.
