Gaylord Hall, Phase II, dedicated

University of Oklahoma Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications students, faculty members, foundation board members and friends were at the dedication of Gaylord Hall, Phase II, in Norman yesterday.
That place is amazing!
Phase II has a courtyard, a patio, a third floor terrace and a statue of the college’s namesake, Edward L. Gaylord. It also has computer labs, video studio, 180- seat auditorium, an area for the college’s student- run advertising and public relations agency.
Also at Gaylord Hall is a live television studio for student newscasts and cable tv broadcasting; print and electronic resources for the Edith Kinney Gaylord Library, and tiered classrooms featuring digital projectors, SMART Boards and wireless internet.
At the ceremony, Gaylord College Dean Joe Foote spoke about the college which has 1400 students and 33 faculty members. He thanked the three foundation contributors for the second phase: The E.L. And Thelma Gaylord Foundation and two foundations founded by Edith Kinney Gaylord, the Inasmuch Foundation, the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism. OU President David Boren attributed many of the College’s successes to Dean Foote. “He leads this college with such conviction and such energy, “ Boren said. In turn, the speakers which included Christy Everest and Bill Ross, also thanked President David Boren for his leadership in all phases of Gaylord College’s project.
Other thank yous went to the Gaylord family represented by Christy, Jim and Tricia Everest and to the Inasmuch Foundation represented by Bill Ross and Bob Ross.
In closing the ribbon- cutting ceremonies, student Savannah Mobley led the crowd in the OU Chant.

CONGRATULATIONS COLE

CLASS OF 2009….Patsy and Cole Wootton. (Photos by Helen Ford Wallace).
A graduation celebration honored Dr. Cole Wayne Wootton who graduated Sunday from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Family and friends met following the graduation ceremonies.
The party was at the David L. Boren Student Union, OU Health Sciences Center.
A Mexican buffet was served as well as a large cake saying “Congratulations Cole Wootton, M.D.”
Cole and his wife Patsy are moving to Lexington, Ky., for his intern and residency program in urology at the University of Kentucky.

Rod Whitson, Pat Snyder and Susan Snyder were at the party honoring Dr. Cole Wootton after his graduation from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. The party was at the David L. Boren Student Union at the OU Health Sciences Center and was given by Cole’s family members.

BRUNCH AND VINTAGE FASHIONS

One of the activities during the University of Oklahoma Panhellenic Association’s Century of Sisterhood week-end was the brunch and fashion show at the National Weather Center. OU Panhellenic was established in 1909.
Special guests at the brunch were International and national sorority officers.
The fashion show opened with a model wearing a long dress with a train which could have been worn to class or to rush week 100 years ago.
Sorority chapters involved were Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Phi Epsilon, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Delta Tau, Sigma Sigma Sigma and Zeta Tau Alpha.
Claire Turmelle was chairman.

Party-goers enjoyed the early morning breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. It was the 2008 President’s Associates annual Beat Texas Celebration. They left by chartered bus and police escort at 8:30 a.m.
Red and white balloons decorated the room where most everyone wore red and white. Clarke Stroud announced notable guests as they arrived at the party. An OU sales table was set up with more red and white attire if needed.
A POST GAME PARTY
Dee Dee and Jon Stuart invited friends to the Jade Room of the Hilton Anatole Hotel following the University of Oklahoma-University of Texas football game which was, unfortunately, won by UT.
Jon Stuart is Board of Regents Chairman and the party followed the arrival of the buses back to the Hotel.
The room was decorated in red and white roses and since it was Stuart’s wife’s birthday, a birthday cake was on the menu.

HOT TIME IN NORMAN

Some loyal Sooner fans boarded a charter bus at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club for the short ride to Norman and to the University of Oklahoma football game at 6 p.m. September 27.
They had fried chicken box lunches, or sandwiches, and they celebrated the great win over Texas Christian University with a round of cocktails.
The Oklahoma football team ranked # 1 the next day in the Associated Press poll .
The last time the Sooner were #1 was in 2003, where they stayed during the season, before losing in the Big 12 game to Kansas State.
