Ann Hargis

My precious friend Ann Hargis won a prestigious award recently.

                Ann Hargis

My precious friend Ann Hargis won a prestigious award recently. It was the “Light, Leadership and Legacy” award presented by The Oklahoma Israel Exchange (OKIE). The group hosted an evening at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in her honor.

Oklahoma State University’s Pistol Pete greeted the crowd at the reception prior to the event. At the end of the evening a special song was sung by the audience. It was Ann-ie Hargis, to the tune of Oklahoma. Doug Gottlieb was the master of ceremonies. Barron Ryan performed a special piano performance.

Guests included the Hargis family (her husband, Burns Hargis, is OSU President) Melvin Moran, Rex Horning, OSU Regents including Calvin Anthony, Natalie Shirley, Bob Sternberg, Cindy and Mike Shelby, Shirley and Ben Shanker.

Called a Yippee-Yi-Yo Evening, I know “First Cowgirl” Ann Hargis had a wonderful time.

She and her husband traveled to Israel in 2007 as part of an OKIE/OKC Jewish Federation Mission. The visit inspired her to envision an exchange between OSU programs and some programs in Israel. She noted that OSU already had some connections in Israel and another connection was made to explore student culinary exchanges between OSU and Rimonim Culinary School in Tiberias. Israeli chefs IIan Roberg and Erez Amos will be in Stillwater for the Distinguished Chef Series in November.

At this time there is an agriculture connection, an OSU Fire Protection Publications Department connection, a commerce one, as well as culture and education connections between Oklahoma and Israel.

Proceeds from the event helped fund OKIE’s objective to coordinate activities between the two states.

And to my friend, Ann Hargis….Congratulations!!! You saw a need and answered it with action. Sorry I could not be there to watch you receive your big honor. (I was already committed to attend a graduation party that night.)

I think that you deserve the “Light, Leadership and Legacy” honor and many, many more for all that you do. Hidedy-hidey-hidey Ho!

Among the activities during Oklahoma State University’s homecoming week-end was the presentation of a surprise one-of-a-kind Madame Alexander dolls to Madeleine Pickens. OSU officials gave the doll to her at a special reception.

Gale Jarvis, President of Madame Alexander Dolls, was on campus to be recognized as a distinguished alumni of the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

She brought a collection of her dolls with her at the invitation of Ann Hargis and Dr. Paulette Hebert. The doll exhibit, the prototypes of Pistol Pete and a Cowgirl doll, and the presentation to Pickens all took place during the weekend. The dolls on exhibit are not for sale.

The Pistol Pete and Cowgirl Madame Alexander dolls will be marketed in the future.
