AT THE PARK

There was a party at Kite Park in Nichols Hills Saturday. It featured a band, lots of balloons and lots of people.

This is nothing new for this Park, but this year,
the park which intersects the streets of Huntington, Camden and Bedford, has had a make-over. It has new lighting, drainage, sidewalks, sprinklers, boulders and new trees and plantings.

Kym Mason, NH Parks, Inc. chairman of Kite Park, and Nancy Herzel, treasurer of NH Parks, Inc., planned the celebration to re-open the park. On hand were Nichols Hills firemen with their fire trucks and policemen with police cars, plus residents of Nichols Hills and underwriters of the park.

Primarily due to the efforts of NH Vice Mayor and City Councilman Peter Hoffman, the park was renovated for several months. Hoffman is credited for having the vision for the park’s update, particularly after the 2007 ice storm which hurt some of the trees in the park. He also helped with the design and raised funds.

Henry Hood, general counsel of Chesapeake, presented Hoffman with a permanent park bench from the citizens of NH, and Mason, gave underwriters Katie and Aubrey McClendon and Chesapeake Energy Co., park benches from NH Parks, Inc.

Other underwriters included Louise and Clay Bennett, Nichols Hills Parks, Inc., Laura and Henry Hood on behalf of Emory and Sydney Hood, Allie and Walter Duncan jr., Mrs. Robert D. Gordon, Kym and Steve Mason, Katie and Tony Say, OKC Beautiful in memory of Ellen Williams and West Family Foundation.
