Oklahoma City area alumnae of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority met at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club for Founder’s Day.

Becky Buchanan was recognized for being “Theta of the Year.”

Elaine Honnold was honored as a 75- year -Theta and 15 members were honored as 50- year- Thetas. They are Rawsie Boyles, Janie McDonald Comstock, Dottie Gourley, Susan Hager, Ann Henry, Patricia Hight, Bette Jo Hill, Gennie Johnson, Dee Anne Montgomery, Elizabeth Prosser, Diane Frew Rouse, Shannon Rundell, Lucy Smith, Kay Lynn Sturm and Kay Sweeney.

Tables were decorated featuring the Theta colors of black and gold.  Centerpieces were a collection of various fresh yellow flowers in  rectangular vases and were given to the honorees at the end of the program.

The Kappa Alpha Theta Flaming Festival at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club featured White House Executive Chef Walter Scheib.  He cooked there from 1995-2005 and has written a cookbook called “White House Chef: Eleven Years, Two Presidents, One Kitchen.” The Festival, featuring 18 decorated tables, a pantry filled with homemade foods, candles, and 18 commercial tables, was from  10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Scheib spoke at noon.

Scheib also planned the luncheon menu with wonderful recipes from his cookbook which included sweet corn and Maryland crab soup, lime and tequila-glazed chicken breast with tropical fruit salsa and mango barbecue sauce and peach and blackberry cobbler with honey lavender ice cream

Table themes included “Our Most Important Guests…Our Children” by Kim Henry; “Falling for Theta,” by Sarah Geiger, Kristen Bohanon and Dana Clifton; “Award Night on the Silver Screen” by Linda Kennedy Rosser; “Whimsical Christmas” by Oklahoma City Theta Moms Club and “A Sentimental Sisterly Social” by Judy Phillips and Janie Axton.

Two Pi Phi guest tables were also featured: “Sisters Birthday Tea-Dreaming of Paris” by Aimee Harlow and “Pi Beta Phi Celebrates 100 Angelic Years with OKC Thetas” by Betty Crow, Beth Hammack, Debbie McCord, Jan Smith and Kay Smith.

Among the commercial tables were Bebe’s, Casey’s, Trochta’s, 42nd Street Candy Co. and No Regrets.

The tea table was decorated with stacks of white plates and soup tureens creating a White House look with roses and greenery. Tea cookies, baked by members, were on the tables and Kappa Alpha Theta past presidents poured tea and coffee.

“My Granny’s Treasures” was the theme of Bonnie Waters Schwarz and Marge Waters’ table.

This table, called “Autumn’s Delight” was set by Connie Weber and Joan Zubik for CASA of Oklahoma City.

Kappa Alpha Theta Moms decorated this table. It was called “Whimsical Christmas.”

Members of Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter celebrated Founders Day with a luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country.

Eight women were honored as 75-Year Thetas and 50-Year Thetas. They are Betty Fallin and Elizabeth Price, 75 years, and Patricia Catlett Austin, Sue Hagan, Jody Kerr, Sheryl Lott, Kay Oliver and Suzanne SIlvester, 50 years.

A photo presentation and biographies were given about each honoree and Christina Fallin presented them with Congressional Recognitions of congratulations and best wishes on behalf of her mother, Congresswoman Mary Fallin. They also received bouquets of yellow tulips and roses and white lilies.

The 2010 Theta of the Year Award was formally presented to Tamara Hermen for her contributions to Theta as well as the community.

Alumnae president Kim Joseph summarized the year’s events. Amy Cottrell and Angela Timberlake were co-chairmen of the luncheon.

Kappa Alpha Theta alum ( at Vanderbilt University)  Amy Grant entertained at lunch at the Theta Flaming Festival at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. She sang some new songs and old favorites to the 400- plus crowd.

She was gracious in her remarks in acknowledging the 50-year-Thetas and also in helping promote the purchase of the centerpieces which also included an Amy Grant Christmas compact disc. She talked about her family members including her mother-in-law and sister-in-law who were in the audience.

It was the 53^rd annual Flaming Festival and  there were 35 festively -decorated and themed tables by Theta alumnae and area merchants. Themes ranged from “Birthday Party for our Granddaughters” by Cathy Cross, Ann Fleming and Janie Cook to  “Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom Luncheon” by Barb Munneke and Cherry Kay Clifford.

Home-baked cookies were served at a table with former past alumni presidents pouring the tea and coffee. (This lovely tea table is traditional ). The Thetas also had a major bake sale with such items as cakes, cookies and fudge sauce and barbecue sauce for sale.

Co-chairmen of the 2009 Flaming Festival were Susie Kemp and Johnna Schick. President of  the local Theta alumnae chapter is Kim Joseph.

Proceeds go to Food 4 Kids and CASA of Oklahoma County.

700 women from 25 states, 36 Oklahoma cities and 33 Texas cities were at the University of Oklahoma Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity 100th anniversary celebration in Norman.

Alpha Omicron chapter members had a festive Centennial luncheon, tour of the Theta house at 845 Chautauqua with first-floor redecorating by master designer Charles Faudree and an evening dinner dance featuring a six-foot long ice sculpture of the sorority house.  All activities included the groups’ active members and alumnae.

A 16 minute video was created by Theta Ann Foerster Ryan of Norman.

A  100-year written history with  photos  was printed in booklet form.  Each Theta guest received a complimentary copy.

This 32-page document was written and compiled by Elizabeth Prosser, Oklahoma City, with text from contributing writers who brought their designated decades to life. Text and photos sources also included national and local Theta archives, University officials, Sooner yearbook and dedicated sorority historians.  The book will be placed in permanent files at the University of Oklahoma library.

Co-chairing the event were Norman resident Helen Edwards Woodward, a former Grand President of Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity, and Oklahoma City resident Carol Franklin Joullian, a Theta district president.
