Birthday party has Hawaiian theme

Kate McConnell celebrated her 9th birthday with a “Tiki Tiime” Hawaiian-themed party. Hosts were her parents, Lisa and Jeff McConnell.
Party favors were grass skirts, leis and tiki mugs.
Kate and her mother made a three- layer chocolate cake featuring an ocean/beach scene with palm trees and chocolate shells and cupcakes decorated with paper umbrellas.
There was Hawaiian music and hula dancers who provided lessons for guests. There was a limbo contest and a huge slip and slide set up.

A brunch and baby shower honored Margaret Spears. The party was given by Sherry Beasley, Cathey Cooper, Judy Dennis, Cheryl McLure, Susan Nicholson, Cindy Rice, Lil Ross, Patti Shidler and Sylvia Slater in the Beasley home.
Grandmother and aunt of the baby, Dixie Spears and Julie Adams, from Arkansas created a tiered cake from baby diapers. In the layers were Arkansas Razorback football team branded items including baby shoes, baby bottle, red toy pig, piggy bank tied with “Go Hogs” streamers.
Among the guests were Harolyn Enis, Carlene Burger, Betsy Hyde, Marian Kiker, Linda Steinhorn, Gwen Cockrill, Judy Wilson, Leslie Schwartz, Corey Blake, Stacey Stiglets, Linda Garrett, Susan Lewis, Bette MacKellar and Anne Nicholson.
Margaret and John Spears are expecting a baby boy to be named Michael Thomas Spears at the end of the month.

Matching pink bows adorned the heads of Sherry Brandt Yeich and her new Yorkie puppy Lilly P. (as in Pulitzer) when a cocktail and dinner party honored them both.
Family members and friends brought gifts for the new arrival, Lilly P., 5 months old, to the home of Chele Gatewood. Co-hostesses were Margie Meibergen, Seyan Hefner, Lindsay Palazzolo, Melissa Meibergen and Leigh Smith.
Special guests were the dog trainer and daugher, Kaylan Head and Sidney Head. Others were Kim Mulinix, Julie Mayfield, Kimba Motley, Lori Tyler, Connie Brandt, Nancy Bell, Christie Hargrove, Liz Howard, Karen Marquis and Kendra Plafker.

Chris and Jidge Verity serve enchiladas and fajitas at their party

Chris and Jidge Verity entertained on July 5 at a Mexican Fiesta in their beautiful backyard. Tables were set up and strings of lights added to the ambiance.
Enchiladas and fajitas were served buffet style. The long table filled with food was set on the driveway. Chris Verity’s homemade pralines were served for dessert. Sombreros were filled with chips and dip for centerpieces.

Business and state leaders help Oklahoma City-based branding firm Funnel Design Group cut the ribbon at their grand opening event. At Automobile Alley’s “Street Noise” party, Oklahoma City and state leaders praised the district’s recent growth and celebrated the grand opening of branding firm Funnel Design Group.
Jane Jenkins, President & CEO of Downtown OKC Inc., helped kick off the event.
Automobile Alley businesses Iguana Mexican Grill, Broadway Wine Merchants and Sara Sara Cupcakes provided refreshments for Street Noise guests. The décor included traffic cones, tires, strobe lights and servers dressed as traffic cops.

ALUMNI ATTEND PICNIC

130 alumni members had a picnic recently on the Casady School campus. People came from the 1969, 1974, 1984 and 1999 classes.
Since the party was located on the grounds between the Lower and Middle Division buildings, everyone could see impending construction of the math building and the chapel addition.

Bob Johnson catches fish with his own hand-tied fish flies

When avid angler Bob Johnson wets a hook, not many fish get away. They are caught by a special fly….one that Johnson has hand -tied In an upstairs room of his house.
He has fished for trout in 14 states in the U.S.,; Smallmouth Bass in Oklahoma; Steelhead in British Columbia; Searun Brown Trout in Argentina and New Zealand; Silver Salmon in Alaska and Canada; Tarpon and Bonefish in Florida, Bahamas, Belize and Mexico; and Snook and Redfish in Florida and Louisiana.
Johnson’s room in the home where he and his wife Gennie Johnson live, has lots of pictures. There is a great antique desk where he sits with his vise (tool with two jaws that close by a lever or screw to hold an object for tying) and spotlight.
Stuck in the cubbyholes of the desk are colorful feathers and quills and spools of thread. He uses the colors of yellow, purple, teal, red, orange, blue, lime, brown, gray, black and even pink for those wily fish to choose from.
His wife Gennie is a fisherwoman and others he has fished the rivers, mountain streams and salt waters with include the late T. Ray Phillips, Mike Ellis, Phil Walker, Bev and Paul Kanaly, Royce Hammons and Mark Bodehamer, Don Dahlgren, Roy Smith, Bob Browne, Tom Love, Martha and Ron Bradshaw, Susan and Pat Sigmon, Bill Bell, Rob Luke, Jerry Ellis, and fly fishing friends in Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Canada and The Netherlands.
He also creates flies for friends who are going fishing.

Lynn and Mike Kelly invited friends to a housewarming cocktail party in their beautiful new home. Prior to the event Father Patrick Bright and Father John Lock led family members in a house blessing.
Friends at the party were Ellen Lisle, Barbara and Bud Beeler, Connell and Cliff Branan, Sally and Steve Bentley, Martha and Ron Bradshaw, Peggy and Marvin Lunde, Dorthlynn and Gil Gaddis, Nancy and Bob Ellis, Sharon and John Bozalis, Jill and Tom King, Linda and Dale Crabtree, Gennie and Bob Johnson and Jane and Paul Austin.

Brad Kelly and Connell Branan were at the party.

QUAIL CREEK JULY 4TH PARADE

At the July 4th Quail Creek parade Coal, the Black Lab retriever that Berta Faye Rex owns, was front and center. He and Berta Faye’s son Dr. John Rex were representing the family. Berta Faye is a longtime parade volunteer. She (with her late husband John) is a major organizer for the event.
She is the recent victim of a house fire and is still in the hospital.
Many of the floats in the parade featured “Get Well Berta Faye” signs and her son noted in correspondence to well wishers that although she was not there in person, she was definitely there in spirit.
Her friends from the parade signed a giant get well card.
