DOWNTOWN KIWANIS CLUB

Members of the Downtown Kiwanis Club had the 86th annual Children’s Outing and Picnic for the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children and Boys Ranch. It was for 90 children and their cottage parents at White Water.
The outing was followed by the Kiwanians grilling burgers and hotdogs at the Boys Ranch campus. Bob Sonnenfeld made and bagged his famous caramel corn for each child.
In 1923, members took the group to the park and provided food entertainment for them.

A wine and cheese party was held at 611 Creative following the first screening of “Unconquered-Allan Houser and the Legacy of One Apache Family” at the 2009 deadCenter Film Festival.
Oklahoma native Bryan Beasley was the writer/director of the film.
The documentary was filmed in Santa Fe, NM; Oklahoma City, OK.,and Fort Sill, OK. Actor Val Kilmer narrates the documentary.
Guests were able to enjoy some pieces of Houser’s art on display during the reception including: “Unconquered” , “Sacred Rain Arrow” – the art that is on the Oklahoma license plates and “Spirit of the Buffalo.”
Among the people there were Coco and Bryan Beasley, Dr. Lee and Sherry Beasley, Heather and Bob Ross, Lil and Bill Ross, Molly and John Fritch, Beverly and Mark Funke, Jane and David Thompson, Sarah and John Edwards, Dr. Bob Blackburn and Kim Bourne.
The film was funded by the Inasmuch Foundation for the Oklahoma History Center.

PREVIEW PARTY AND RECEPTION

This year’s artwork at the Prix de West Show is the best ever. There are beautiful paintings and sculptures to be viewed and available for the purchase sale tonight at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
Last night there was a crowd of artists, buyers, art dealers and lovers of great artwork at the Friday night preview party and reception.
Bouquets of sunflowers and hydrangeas were set throughout the gallery and a huge table of hors d’oeuvres was available for the party-goers.
People wore everything from cowboy attire to formal cocktail clothes.
Among the artwork for purchase are by artists William Acheff, Gerald Balciar, Walt Gonske, Harold T. Holden, Paul Calle, Martin Grelle, Oreland C. Joe Sr., Ramon Kelley, Jim Wilcox, Sonya Terpening, Roy Andersen, John Encinias, Pino Dangelico, Wayne Justus, John Moyers and Curt Walters.
You can see the artwork from this show through September 7.

SUMMER TEA FOR KIMBERLY WRIGHT

National Mothers of the Year and Oklahoma Mothers of the Year got together for a Summer Tea on June 10th in the home of Lela Sullivan. Hostesses were Sullivan, Connell Branan and Sherri Boyd.
Kimberly Wright, Las Vegas, Nev., 2009 National Young Mother of the Year, was in town and Branan, who is on the board for American Mothers Inc. and a former National Young Mother herself, wanted everyone to meet her.
Wright was born in Hominy, Ok., and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.
Guests included the special moms and friends. Among them were Karen Browne, Barbara Thompson, Shelly Soliz, Irene Costilow, Barbara Beeler, Bobbie Burbridge Lane, Polly Nichols, Debby Dudman, Marilyn Meade and Dorothy Hammert.

GUESTS ENJOY YARD PARTY

Beaux Arts Ball Debutantes, Escorts and their parents had a party in the
home of Kym and Steve Mason recently.
It was hosted by their son, George Mason, and Matthew Rooney, Christina
Ellis, Towns Holmboe, Jeffrey Semtner and Jacob Archer.
The group played yard games of croquet, badminton, bocci ball,the ladder
game and ping pong. Croquet was set up in the front yard.
The parents of the debs and escorts socialized while court members got
to know each other. Mini- tacos, quesadillas and macaroni and cheese
balls were passed. A sundae bar was set up for dessert.
Guests were invited to the party with a yard sign invitation which
the hosts delivered to their front yard.
The Beaux Arts Ball is in November and Connell Branan is chairman.

CLASSEN DISTINGUISHED ALUM 2009

(Ret)U.S. District Judge Ralph G. Thompson was the honoree at the Classen School of Advanced Studies.
He was named the “Classen Distinguished Alumnus for 2009” and was introduced by his friend Jim Fentriss. CSAS Principal Valerie Harris told about the award.
The event was at the Classen Museum.

It was a special treat for Jose Freede and I to be hostesses for Paige Gordon and her beautiful bridesmaids. We asked her exactly what her favorite foods were that she wanted for her luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club and she replied cheese grits!
So along with a salad topped with chicken strips (those girls are very thin you know), we had a ramekin of grits.
The flowers for the tables were from Trochta’s and were beautiful roses, hydrangeas, orchids, stephanotis (very bridal looking).
Guests included Jan Hoepfner, the groom,Ben Dougherty’s, mother; Molly Ann Sanger, the bride’s grandmother; Dana Gordon, the bride’s mother, Nancy Gordon, the bride’s grandmother; Sara and Sydney Geiger, Stephanie and Emmie Shaw, Caroline Sullivan, and all the bridesmaids.

Paige Gordon and Ben Dougherty were married June 6 in Christ the King Catholic Church and a reception followed at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
Father Richard D. Stansberry married the couple.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Dougherty and Jan Hoepfner.
Callie Gordon was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Katie Allen, Ellen Carey, Lesley Crabbe, Allison Gould and Addie Triska.
Matt Boughton was best man and groomsmen were Andy Connelly, Erik Hoepfner, Craig McAuliff, Nick Patterson, Bryan Gordon, Will Luttrell, Danny Miles, Michael Reel and Brian Smith. Ushers were Bryan Beavers, Justin Dick, Ryan Eastman, Billy Khourie III, Stephen Sexton and Jordan Sibley.
Flower girls were Sydney Geiger and Emaline Shaw. In the house party were Whitney Caston, Laura Dumbell and Caroline Sullivan.

Joanna Souders and Ryan Nelson were married recently at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas, Tx.
At the reception, the bride and her dad, Jim Souders, performed a dance routine to the music of “Put’n On The Ritz.”
Their parents are Susie and Dr. Jay Nelson, Oklahoma City, and Marilyn and Jim Souders, Plano, Tx.
The newly-weds honeymooned in Paris and are at home in Dallas where he is with the law firm of Hunton and Williams.
