The inaugural “Best of the Press” celebration was at the University of Oklahoma Press building.  75 guests enjoyed a chuck wagon dinner and looked through the giant stacks of books.

They purchased the OU Press- published books at discounted prices.  Bill Ford, Byron Price, John Lovett and Mary Jo Watson were on the program.

Red bandana tablecloths covered the picnic tables and various pitchers filled with sunflowers and red carnations were centerpieces. Bales of hay sat around the room and a huge covered wagon with an OU sign was by the chow line. Tom Ford rang the dinner bell when it was time to eat. Placemats were laminated book covers.
“Cowboy” coffee (with a shot of Jack Daniel’s whiskey) and fruit cobbler were served after dinner.

On the advisory board of the  Friends of the Charles M.Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West who were underwriters are  Charles G. Cale, Patty Coffey, Joe H. Crosby, James Davis, Bill Ford, Sue Ann Hyde, William G. Kerr, Joan J. Stauffer, Jon R. Stuart and Dr. Robert Sukman.
