Parties Extra!—October 9,2008—Norman, Ok. Junior League Celebrates 25th anniversary

A group of women in Norman, Ok., celebrated at an open house recently. The Junior League of Norman marked the 25th anniversary of the group. Active members, provisionals and sustainers met at JL headquarters for the event.

They were the 252nd League in the Association of JL International. Among the 25 projects the local volunteers  have undertaken included “Reading Is Fundamental,” Volunteer of the Year Service awards,”Kids in the Kitchen,” “Early Rider,” and “Baby Steps.”

Parties Extra!—October 7, 2008—OU Panhellenic Association plans to celebrate 100 years

University of Oklahoma Panhellenic Centennial Chairman Claire Turmelle had her first planning meeting for OU’s Panhellenic Association’s 100th anniversary.  Kate Stanton was hostess for the event in Norman.

On the committee are representatives from many of the campus sorority houses. They are Stanton, Claire Turmelle, Johnna Austin, Jill Duty, Alissa Myers, Becky Barker, Chris Purcell, Erin Simpson, Helen Woodward, Kari Jacobson and Robin Allen.
The Centennial Celebration will be held April 2009 in conjunction with “Queen for a Weekend”, which is when the National Panhellenic Council delegates and National presidents of OU’s 11 sorority chapters will visit the campus. Tentative date is April 17-19. Ideas from the planning meeting included tree plantings, progressive dinners at the sorority houses, alumni brunch and a fashion show from the decades. The Friday reception for the visitors will be in the stadium suites.

Parties Extra!—October 6,2008—First meeting of Visionary Oklahoma Women

A group called  Visionary Oklahoma  Women (VOW) from the Oklahoma Creativity Project met recently in the home of Meg Salyer.   Film maker David Kennard was guest speaker. He is making a film about creativity.

Guests included Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, Marion DeVore, Bobbie Robbins, Ginny Evans, Jane Thompson, Jenny Dunning, Carol Sorrels, Linda Haneborg, Nancy Leonard, Susan McCalmont, Donna Vogel and Ann Lacy.

   THE LOTUS CLUB DANCE

Members of one of Oklahoma City’s Dance clubs, the Lotus Club, had their  Fall Dance at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club recently. They met early for cocktails, had a gourmet dinner then and danced.

New members of the group are Bette and Jim MacKellar.
Officers were announced and Tom King is the new  president. Other officers are Johnson

r, vice president, and Millie Hightower,secretary/treasurer.

Parties Extra!—October 4, 2008—Lt. Gov. Askins speaks at Law Auxiliary luncheon

Members of the Oklahoma City Bar Auxiliary met September 11 at Quail Creek Golf and
Country Club.
Program Vice-President Robyn McMillin introduced  Lt. Gov. Jari Askins who talked about her career in politics.

On the menu for the luncheon was Santa Fe chicken, sweet potatoes and pecan pie.

Among those attending were Susan Turpen, Marylin Summers, Carlita Walters, Kay Musser, Sue Goodman, Paula Beverage, Kay Bass and Barbara Brockhaus.

Hostesses Kathy Brown (her home), Shirley Everest, Laurie Givens, Rhonda Hefton, Susan Hoffman, Sue Homsey, Leslie Samara, Lynn Samis, Linda James and Mary Kay Samis entertained for bride-to-be Carter Samis who will marry Fred Fellers in Charleston, S.C. in Nov.


In lieu of place cards, there were silver compacts with guest’s names engraved on them and garden roses, peonies, southern fresh mint and magnolia leaves were used for centerpieces. Tables had cut lace tablecloths and heirloom crystal and china. A southern recipe Spoon bread and chicken was served.

Mother Karen Samis, Sister Katharine Samis and the bride had gardenias at their luncheon places.


Among the guests were Meagan Samis, Lawre Everest,  Ali Justus, Terry Bradley,Gene Barth, ALix Samara, Kristin Carson, Leslie Regens, Abby Lawrence, Jenny Dunning and Linda Duncan.
