The festive “ghost host” (above) accompanied the invitation and the press release. And if YOU decide to help this worthy cause with your donation, you too will receive a decorative ghost with recommendations for seasonal children’s activities, books and safety tips.
The invitation also outlines nine non-event reasons to buy a ticket to the ball including saving gas money and enjoying all the comforts of home. It notes that the most important reason to buy a $50. ticket is to help a child.

Parties Extra!—October 30, 2008— Kiwanis Club Has A Party
DOWNTOWN KIWANIS CLUB

Members of the downtown Kiwanis Club of Oklahoma City had a tailgate party at Sportsman’s Country Club.
Fletcher Williams brought a sound system and margarita machine. Guest speaker was The Oklahoman’s Multimedia Editor Mike Koehler.
Guests wore OU red and OSU orange.
Committee members were Williams, Judge Noma Gurich, Lucien Jones, John Covington, Miki Farris and Randall Stoner. Beverly Woodrome is president.
Among the club’s projects are college CKI groups at OU and OCU; three high school Key Clubs at Bishop McGuinness, Classen SAS and Emerson; a middle school Builder’s club at CSAS. They have also had an annual picnic for Baptist Children’s Home for 85 years; rung the Salvation Army bells at Christmas for 90 years, and co-sponsored with OK Lawyers, a Reading Buddies program at Carver Mark Twain Head Start.

Basketball fans had a great time watching the Oklahoma City Thunder play NBA Basketball in the Ford Center. It was a great party atmosphere. Read excellent sports coverage in The Oklahoman and online at NewsOk.
Sports writer John Rhode compiled a list of “Thunder firsts” for this very special NBA Basketball night. Check them out and remember our own Thunder will be number one (first) in our hearts.

Astronaut Leroy Chiao, Ph.D. talked at a Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation dinner Oct. 24. The topic was “The Importance of Taking a Global View: An Astronaut’s Perspective.
The fifth annual Senator Penny Williams Distinguished Lecture Series dinner was held in the school’s Bernice Shedrick Library. OSSM foundation donors were hosts. He talked to students that morning on : View From On High:Adventures of a Professional Astronaut.”
Dr. Chiao has been on four space missions with NASA. He has logged 229 days in space.

The annual Delta Delta Delta Sorority alumni event for members and their husbands and dates was held in the Nichols Hills home of Tina and Elby Beal. The party was indoors and outdoors. Outside heaters were in place.
Decorations included pansies, mums and pumpkins and gourds. Grilled brats, sauerkraut, German potato salad, cobblers and German beer and wine were served.
50 people attended including Rhonda and Jim Williston, Donna and Bart Lowrey, Marylee and Tim Strange, Cindy and Jim Hazelwood, Cindy and Mike Tarpley, Gaye Wilson, Lisa Synar, Beth Brown, Sallie and Wendell Cavin, Melanie and Van Russell, Kimberly Casey, Julie Barry and Teresa and Rick Shavney.

OSU SURPRISES PICKENS

Among the activities during Oklahoma State University’s homecoming week-end was the presentation of a surprise one-of-a-kind Madame Alexander dolls to Madeleine Pickens. OSU officials gave the doll to her at a special reception.
Gale Jarvis, President of Madame Alexander Dolls, was on campus to be recognized as a distinguished alumni of the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
She brought a collection of her dolls with her at the invitation of Ann Hargis and Dr. Paulette Hebert. The doll exhibit, the prototypes of Pistol Pete and a Cowgirl doll, and the presentation to Pickens all took place during the weekend. The dolls on exhibit are not for sale.
The Pistol Pete and Cowgirl Madame Alexander dolls will be marketed in the future.

A reception honored Druanne and David Durrett who were married March 18 in Palm Springs, Ca. Hosts were his parents, Barbara and Bill Durrett.
The bride wore a black and white dress and an orchid corsage. Guests mingled in the Rotunda of Quail Creek Golf and Country Club and sampled the fabulous buffet set up downstairs. Daisies, hydrangeas, mini-mums and ferns were on all the tables.
Among the party guests were Becky and Luke Corbett, Rita and Jim Litton, Marilyn and Gene Torbett, Lyn Elam, Shirley and Phil Martin and the couple’s family members.

Twins Elaine DeGiusti and Maria Abbott were honorees at a surprise 40th birthday party at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. Husbands Dr. Craig Abbott and Judge Tim DeGiusti, Sister and brother-in-law Lisa and Frank Campbell and Parents Barbara and Ralph Thompson were hosts and surprised the women as they arrived. They thought they were attending a Museum function. Tables were set up throughout the Museum. The dinner was served buffet style and included a Chocolate cake and a Lemon Cake, the twins’ favorites.A slide show of Ralph Thompson’s photos of family members through the years played during the evening. Guests were invited to tour the Museum following dinner. The party invitation, labeled “Top Secret,” featured pictures of the twins as babies (wearing precious baby bonnets) and current photos.
