SERVING DRINKS…Members of Delta Delta Delta alumni and their husbands and dates were at the home of Marca and Bob Floyd in Edmond for the 33rd annual bullfrog party.

TRES AMIGOS…..Sally Saunders and Barbara and Hank Watson were hosts for a party in the Saunders home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They honored Mary and Mike Mahaffey who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party the night before.
The Saunders’ home was filled with yellow marigold flower leis. The flowers decorated lampshades, chandeliers, bowls and trays. The hostesses had shopped the outdoor SF market that morning for the special decorations. Oklahoma City friends of the Mahaffey’s were special guests and they congregated on the two patios of the home.After the cocktail event, many of the guests went to dinner in the SF area and some attended the opera. The next night (Sunday) at the same time of the Saturday party, there was a major ice storm in the New Mexico town.

LET’S DANCE…Joie De Vie Dance Club members were at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for their summer dance. Kip Curtis Combo played and theme for the event was “Tropical Heat Wave Dance.”
The evening began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 7 p.m. followed by dancing an hour later. Ms. Senior Oklahoma Ladell Maxwell Brown of Ada performed the Hawaiian hula for the crowd. This was the dance she will perform in the talent part of the Ms. Senior America pageant competition in Atlantic City, N.J., in October.

SIX ARTISTS….Local artists Carlie Bentley, David Duke, Ron Ferrell, Samantha Lamb, C. Lynne Mallett and Brian Palmer exhibited their best artwork at New Leaf Florist’s 10th annual art show.
Guests were served wine and hors d’oeuvres in the shop and also cupcakes. Six trays of decorated gourmet cupcakes were dished up to art-goers to promote the new SaraSara Cupcake Bakery which will open downtown on NW 9th and at a cupcake bar in Casady Square. Family members Toni Hoffman, Teta Turner, Caroline Cannon and Kelly Suchy were at the party advertising the October opening. RED EARTH… FUN AND FUND-RAISING AND FEATHERS

Red Earth board members and their friends were in the home of Carleen and Jerry Burger for desserts, wine and champagne.
There was a silent and live auction of artwork including paintings, jewelry, Indian pots and one beautifully- woven shawl. Robin Marsh was the auctioneer.

Board members brought special desserts for the party which were judged in the categories of “Best Dessert” and “Best Presentation.” Lou Kerr and Louise Painter won the prizes. Mark Sullivan and Bill Wallace were judges for the competition.
Executive director Connie Yellowman talked about the upcoming Red Earth activities. The 13th annual Allie Reynolds Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Oct. 13 at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
The next Red Earth Festival is June 5, 6 and 7, 2009, at the Cox Convention Center.

BLACK TIE AND BOOTS…Oklahoma City and Santa Fe, New Mexico, friends of Mary and Mike Mahaffey got together in Santa Fe at a party hosted by the couple who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
The party, on the roof of the La Fonda Hotel, featured dinner and dancing to the music of the Pink Flamingos from Albuquerque, N.M.

SPECIAL EVENING…Colorado College’s president Richard F. Celeste and his wife, Jacqueline Lundquist, were in town last week and were special guests at a party given by Heather and Bob Ross.
The college, located in Colorado Springs, Colo., was the focus of the event and alumni, students, parents and guests were there. Bob Ross introduced Celeste.

Parties Extra!—August 20,2008—Golf tournament set for September
Members of the Edmond Women’s Club came to the NewsOk podcast studio to talk about their upcoming fund-raiser, the 2nd annual charity golf tournament being held at Gaillardia Golf and Country Club.
The event, for men and women, is September 22 beginning at 9 a.m.
Tracy Sadler and Donna Bell are co-chairmen and noted in the podcast that 144 players will tee off. Among the prizes are those for putting, for closest to the pin and longest drive. There are four first place winners. The event is one of EWC’s major fund-raisers for the year and money that is raised will go to community projects.

Parties Extra!—August 19,2008—Partying in Santa Fe
50th ANNIVERSARY PARTY

The Pink Flamingos Orchestra from Albuquerque, N.M., played at the 50th anniversary party for Mary and Mike Mahaffey at the La Fonda Hotel In Santa Fe, N.M.
Guests were called to the stage to assist the group. Among those taking a turn on the guitars and musical shakers were the Mahaffeys, Carol and Mack Troy and Lela and Mark Sullivan, Ed Dalton and most of the party crowd.
Guests were asked to wear black tie and cowboy boots and most complied. Mary wore beautiful sheer pale yellow slacks with a long tunic top. Mike Mahaffey and Bud Beeler wore white dinner jackets and cowboy boots. Mike also had coral cuff links and a coral bracelet.
Jim Vallion wore a black shirt, tuxedo jacket, black jeans and a beaded bolo tie . Carol and Mac Troy had on tux jackets and jeans and Gary Homsey wore a tux shirt and jacket with jeans and a bolo tie and a belt with a silver buckle.

WELCOME HOME…When Mallory Pope Jackson moved back to her home state, Oklahoma, from Texas, her mother, Kerry Pope, entertained at a luncheon. She has been living in Texas since 1995.
The “Welcome Home” event was at the Inspirations Tea Room.

THE BRIDE…Liza Browne, who married Sterling Cryder on August 2, was the honoree at the bridesmaid’s luncheon. Hostesses were Kaye Cook, Wanda Swisher, Donna Amundsen and Sarah Hogan.
The party was in the Regency Room of the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club. The hostesses gave the bride an engraved cake server in her silver pattern.
VERY GRAND…A reception on the 20th floor of the 360 at Founders Plaza building was held August 7 in conjunction with the ribbon cutting ceremony and ground breaking for phase two.
Jim Meyer welcomed guests and then invited them to tour model units of the condominium project before proceeding to the 20th floor for the party where wine and hors d’oeuvres were served.
NEW READ….Author Ann Larson was the honoree at a party at Casey’s Gift Shop in Casady Square. It was also a book-signing event for the pre-release of her children’s book, “ Statehood the Ok Way.”

Parties Extra!—August 13, 2008—Celebration in Ohio–Dr. and Mrs. William A. Wallace

Joyce J. Wallace and Dr. William Arthur Wallace jr. were hosts for a dinner party on August 9th in Columbus, Ohio, where they live. The event celebrated their January marriage in Las Vegas, Nev.
The party was at the Graystone Winery where toasts were given and a disc jockey played for dancing. A celebratory three- tiered wedding cake featured chocolate and white cake with raspberry filling, topped with fresh orchids, roses and hydrangeas. There were 44 guests including family members and colleagues.
Dr. Wallace is an Oklahoma City native. He attended Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He is a practicing plastic surgeon at Ohio State University Medical Center where he completed his general surgery residency and plastic surgery fellowship. His parents are William Arthur Wallace sr., Oklahoma City, and the late Patricia Wallace.
Joyce Wallace is a heart surgery nurse at Ohio State University Medical Center and is a native of Ohio. Her parents are Marion Jones, Gallipolis, Ohio, and Tom Jones, Jackson, Ohio.

REALLY LUCKY…The kick-off party for Liza Browne and Sterling Cryder’s wedding weekend was at Cattleman’s Restaurant.
Hosts were Candy and Chuck Ainsworth, Carol Beard, Julee and John Coyle, Kanela Huff, Jill and Tom King, Judy Lehmbeck, Ed Moore, Steve Raupe, Meg and Chris Salyer, Libby and Steve Steakley, Tina and Dick Stubbs and Kathy and Russ Walker.
The party invitations invited out of town guests, family members and the wedding party for “A Boot Stomping and Finger Lickin’ Good Time.”
Buck Goucher sang and played the guitar and a horseshoe ice carving added to the decorations. On the tables were Gerber daisies and horseshoes. On the menu were sirloin steak and lamb fries.

GATHERING OF FRIENDS…Jessie Ann Arnold was the honoree at a bridal luncheon at The Coach House. She was married two days later at All Souls Episcopal Church to Virg Wallentine.
Luncheon hostesses were Gail Beals, Dawn Davis, Carolyn Hall, Chris Houk, Judy McDowell and Linda Steinhorn.
Stephanotis and red roses were on the tables for the seated event and since she is a University of Oklahoma Pi Beta Phi alumni member, the pastry dessert was called “Pi Phi Pudding.”
Guests gave champagne toasts.

ENGAGED….Katherine English and Steve Groves were honorees at an engagement party in the Regency Room of the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
Hosts were the Betty and Garry Huckabay and Susan Garland. Betty Huckabay and Garland are aunts of the future bride.
The engaged couple lives in Washington, D.C. and will be married in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in November. Their parents are Jarmon, Bill J. English, and Elizabeth and Philip Groves.

HE’ S 80….Rod Martindale celebrated his 80th birthday with lots of close family members in Stillwater. Theme for the party was “80 in ‘O8” and everyone wore campaign buttons and brought 80 of something as gifts.
Wife Jo Martindale made 80 cupcakes. Gifts included 80 Hershey kisses, 80 pistachios, 80 Tootsie rolls, 80 AA batteries, 80 pencils (for his crossword puzzles), 80 cents, 80 $1. bills in a grapevine wreath and 80 memories in a keepsake book.

SHE’S 100…Sibyl Marsh celebrated her 100th birthday recently. Her son, Johnny Marsh, hosted a celebration for 100 people in her honor at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
Her great-nephew, C.M. Zeeck, read a proclamation to the 75 friends and relatives at the party. It noted that Gov. Brad Henry designated August 4th as “Sibyl Marsh Day” in Oklahoma.
People there included Tracey, Andy and Charlie Zeeck, Gene Braudrick, Rep. Randy McDaniel, Linda and Mike Zeeck, David Zeeck, Sue and Tom Brown, Lee Lilly and Kay Sweeney.

CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION….A group of friends were hosts for a party honoring engaged couple Paige Gordon and Ben Dougherty.
The party was in the home of Ellen Carey and co-hosts were Katie Allen, Ellen Carey, Addison Triska, Laura Dumbell, Leah O’Kelly, Allison Gould, Michael Reel, Will Luttrell, Nick Patterson, Craig McCaulif and Brooke and Andy Connelly.
The young people enjoyed a menu of special desserts. The couple’s wedding is planned for next June.
VERY SELECT….When the International Wine and Food Society met recently at Bin 73 for a five-course dinner, the members and guests had a spectacular event. Karleen and Mike Krywucki were hosts and planned the menu.
The gourmet dinner included black sesame salmon roulade, red rice pilaf salad with goat cheese and chive dressing, maple cayenne pork tenderloin, chambord chocolate mousse with Michigan blueberries.
GETTING TOGETHER AGAIN…A few days ago, old friends from Harding High School gathered for a dinner reunion at County Line Restaurant.
It’s been 45 years since members of the class of 1963 graduated. The planning committee, including Kaye Vernon Adams, Susan Moorman and Marty Sanger McCharen, noted that their classmates had indicated that they wanted a party just to talk and catch up with their friends.

MYSTERY THEME ….Michelle Hernandez celebrated her 25th birthday at the Stone Lion Inn, Guthrie. It was an enactment of a 1930-40’s murder mystery dinner with a funeral theme and guests dressed accordingly. Hernandez wore a 1970’s vintage satin flapper dress.
