Parties Extra!—July 30, 2008—Wine and Food Group Meet For Dinner

The International Wine and Food Society met recently at Bin 73 for a five-course dinner. . Karleen and Mike Krywucki were hosts and planned the menu which included black sesame salmon roulade, red rice pilaf salad with goat cheese and chive dressing, maple cayenne pork tenderloin, chambord chocolate mousse with Michigan blueberries.
Chef Beau Stephenson and Chef Keith Dabbs prepared the meal and Jennifer Nunnull with Glazers Wine Distributers described the wines.
Toby Muller is chairman of the IWFS.

Parties Extra!—July 29, 2008— Former Harding High School Classmates Have 45th Reunion

The 1963 Harding High School graduating class gathered for a dinner reunion at County Line Restaurant.
The planning committee, including Kaye Vernon Adams, Susan Moorman and Marty Sanger McCharen, noted that their classmates had indicated that they wanted a party just to talk and catch up with their friends since some of them had not been together for 45 years.
Decorations were clear glass containers filled with limes, white flowers and green ferns (green and white were Harding colors.) The County Line barbecue was served family style and featured chicken, brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans , homemade bread, cole slaw, brownies and peach cobbler.
Clark Musser, class president, welcomed the group.
Members of this class have a Christmas party each year and the women meet monthly for dinner. They have traveled together through the years.

Parties Extra!—July 25, 2008—Four couples celebrate at parties

Lizanne Garrett and Joe Reger, both from Washington, D.C., are pictured at the Washtington Momument. They were in Oklahoma City recently for an engagement party given by her parents,Linda and Steve Garrett, at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. Family members and high school and college friends were among the guests. During the weekend, some of the the people here for the engagement party attended a Redhawks game and toured Bricktown and went to the Roman Art and Chihuly Glass exhibit. There was also a Sunday brunch at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club and Lizanne was hostess for a luncheon to formally invite her attendants to serve in the wedding.

Family and friends gathered at the party after the future bridegroom proposed on a horse-drawn carriage ride through downtown Oklahoma City.

Andrew and Mary Anne Thomas, Joanna Champlin and Shawnee Brittain celebrate the Thomas marriage which was last spring. Champlin and Brittain entertained for her son and new daughter -in -law at party in their home which has a newly remodeled pool and garden area with a large waterfall and copper fire bowl burning just above the water. Tiki torches, candles and fire bowls were set around along with vases of orchids.

FUN PARTY AT THE RIVER

Rachel Samara Bolen and Nelson Bolen were at the Chesapeake Boathouse on July 10 for a party honoring out of town guests and the wedding party members for their July 12 wedding.
Hosts for dinner were Martha and Ron Bradshaw, Lynda and Chuck Nelson, Libby and Bobby Nelson, Candace and Charles Nelson II and Maura and Jason Bradsha.
A band played on the deck and bistro tables with lanterns and centerpieces of moss, rocks and plants were set up.

A GREAT PARTY

DOWNTOWN PARTY….Carole and Ed Kelley were hosts for a dinner and reception in their new home downtown in the Block 42 condominium development. The party was held on behalf of members of the Washington- based group called the Fund for American Studies.
Co-hosts were Nancy and Mark Stansberry. He is a member of the fund’s board of trustees.
This fund, in existence since 1967, places college students in internships and other programs to study politics, business, journalism and issues of public policy.
Vice-president of the group Ed Turner, Washington, D.C., was here for the party.
Guests gathered on the first floor of the Kelley home for a reception and then moved upstairs for a seated dinner. Roses and dark pink Gerber daisies and candles decorated the tables. After dinner, the 20 guests gathered on the rooftop for a view of downtown Oklahoma City at night.

FOR THE BRIDE….Rachel Samara Bolen who was married last weekend to Nelson Bolen, was the honoree, along with her bridesmaids, at a luncheon. The party was at Gaillardia Golf and Country Club.
Hostesses were Dolores Homsey, Sue Homsey, Kristin Carson, Anna Homsey, Margot Bayouth and Brittani Johnson. They toasted the bride using two white and three blue Jordan almonds signifying happiness, health, prosperity, fertility and longevity.
Guests were members of the wedding party and family members including Leslie Samara, Fanny Bolen, Elizabeth Samara, Juliana Samara, Kristin Carson, Sarah Eveans,(cq) Anna Homsey, Heather Jones, Bebe MacKellar and Alix Samara.

IT’S A GIRL….Katie Blaik James was the honoree at a baby shower given by Judy Jordan, D’Arline McCubbin, Geraldine Raupe and Barbara Watson in the Raupe home.
The buffet table was filled with cookies, tea sandwiches, strawberries for dipping and other assorted brownies, candies and nuts. Joan Payne decorated the table with a porcelain baby doll in an antique baby stroller and with a wicker baby buggy filled with flowers. Pink tipped roses and hydrangeas were arranged in other vases for the table and throughout the home.

Rachel Samara and Nelson Bolen were married July 12 in a wonderful ceremony at St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church.
The wedding reception was at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club where party fare featured a variety of foods including a variety of middle eastern foods like tabouli and kibbeh and also beef tenderloin and fried chicken and a hot dog bar depicting the groom’s love of Chicago Cubs baseball.
At the wedding reception silk parasols festooned with garlands of flowers hung from the chandeliers and huge bouquets of flowers were on the buffet tables. The bride’s fondant wedding cake was topped with icing flowers.
The couple gave bottles of wine for to departing guests and a little message: “We toast you for sharing this special evening with us. While we honeymoon in the wine country, please make a toast to us as we begin our life together. Cheers! Love, Rachel and Nelson.”
The newly-weds’ parents are Leslie and Dr. Scott Samara and Fanny and Don Bolen.
In the wedding party were maids of honor, Elizabeth Samara and Juliana Samara, and bridesmaids Kristin Carson, Sarah Eveans, Anna Homsey, Heather Jones, Bebe MacKellar and Alix Samara.
Bobby Nelson was best man and groomsmen were Nick Bentley, Jeb Blacketer, Todd Currie, Bruce MacKellar, Charles Nelson II, Shea Samara and Grant Stewart.
Flower girl and ring bearer were Claire Samara and Bolen MacKellar. (They were outstanding in their respective wedding duties.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WITH LOVE

When Ann Hoover celebrated her birthday on July 9, friends gathered in her home to tell her that they had, in a week’s time, raised over one million dollars in her name.
It is for an “Ann Hundley Hoover Endowed Chair” at the Wanda Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. She was the first chairman of the Wanda Bass School of Music fine arts board at the university and is a trustee and is on several related committees.
At the party were the people who send e-mails and worked via telephone for the fund: Ann Alspaugh, Kaye Cook, Gene Barth, Cathy Leichter, Jill King, Cheryl Browne, Annie Bohanon and Becky Love.
Also at the party were Ann’s husband, Bob Hoover; OCU Dean of the Music School Mark Parker; OCU President Tom McDaniel; Warren Hoover, and Ann’s brother, Dean Hundley.
The group presented her a small folding chair decorated with balloons to represent the “big” chair at the university.

ANNUAL PARTY….The Knott’s and Brown’s annual noon luncheon following the July 4th Nichols Hills Parade featured the world’s best food. It was fried chicken at its’ finest, traditional bread and butter sandwiches, red frozen fruit salad, a huge pan of baked beans, potato salad and homemade ice cream and chocolate cake.
Hosts were Ranell and Steve Brown, Tom Knott, Meredith, Kristen, Matt, Bella and Michah Brown, Katy and Robert McGee and Christy, Brian, Austin and Gavin Gordon.
Red, white and blue tablecloths were on all the tables and flowers were red orchids, white mums and blue irises.
The hosts always add a line about invited guests. They note “this means, children, married children, grandchildren, boy or girl friends, parents!”
THREE GENERATIONS…When Laura Wilkinson Gable and Isabel Gable, 7, Menlo Park, Calif., came to town to visit grandmother Carol Troy and husband, Mac Troy, Lela Sullivan was hostess for a luncheon.
She was assisted by her granddaughter, Langley Branan, 8. Langley planned the menu and chose her great-grandmother’s china and placemats for the table.
Also attending was Langley’s mother, Connell Branan, who attended high school with Laura Gable and Carol Troy who has been a friend of the Sullivan’s for many years.
IN COLORADO…Several people were in Colorado Springs, Colo., recently when Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner were honorees at an Olympic Day Reception.
It was at the United States Olympic Training Center and was hosted by members of the US Olympic Committee. The group met with various USOC executives regarding Oklahoma City’s involvement in the Olympics and they also toured the Training Center.

NEW ART…A July 4th holiday opening reception honored artist Sue Hale at the In Your Eye Studio and Gallery. Her new artwork featuring landscapes and some of her new pictures had a summertime theme. The artist studied art with the late Kay Orr. Hale was also at the Gallery the next day answering questions about her artwork.

NEW DENTAL SCHOOL GRADUATE

Dr. Clay Sigmon was one of the 60 graduating OU Dental School students. His dad, Dr. Pat Sigmon, also a dentist, wore a blue and gold hood, representing the University of Michigan where he graduated from Dental School. Dr. Clay Sigmon wore the crimson and white hood from OU. He will join his dad in private practice. Dr. Jason Sigmon is an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon.
