Parties Extra!—May 12, 2008—Three Junior Leaguers Honored
Special recognition was given to three Junior League Sustaining members at the annual membership luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
They were Gayle Semtner, Sustainer of the Year; Sandy Meyers, Mary Baker Rumsey Lifetime Achievement, and Cynthia Meyerson, President’s Spirit of Commitment.
Meyerson’s award has been given one other time. It is awarded to a member who has consistently made outstanding changes in the community and also demonstrates the Junior League goal of promoting volunteerism and improving the community.
Meyers’ award is named after the founder of the Junior League and is given to a woman who has held leadership positions in the community and the League throughout her life. One of her current board positions is the President’s Advisory Committee for the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts.
Semnter received her award for her guidance and leadership in the community. She has focused on the Arts and currently serves on the Cultural Development Corporation of Central Oklahoma and the Arts Council of Oklahoma.
A video of each honoree was show prior to their talks at the luncheon. Each honoree was given a bouquet of flowers, a plaque and checks to the non-profit organization of their choice.
