PARTIES EXTRA!—FEBRUARY 16, 2008—DOEL REED CENTER AND OSU

DOEL REED ART CENTER…Lela and Dr. Mark Sullivan and Ann and Burns Hargis invited their friends to the Sullivan house for a reception. They wanted to tell them about The Doel Reed Center for the Arts.The Center ( composed of three adode houses) in Taos, New Mexico, has been donated to Oklahoma State University by Martha Reed, Doel Reed’s daughter. The Center will be for national/international artists and scholars and will also have courses and programs in landscape architecture, English, History, Music, Theater, Geology, Geography, Physics and Botany. There is an OSU Art Department on site.Dr. Sullivan welcomed guests and Lela Sullivan told a little history about her grandfather, Henry G. Bennett who was an early day OSU president, and Doel Reed, the first professor of art at OSU. Burns Hargis introduced current art department, Sallie McCorkle and other OSU dignitaries at the party. Lela Sullivan presented a Doel Reed original print to OSU from her mother’s, Frances Bennett’s, collection.

BEST OF THE BEST…Beth Portman was introduced as “Theta of the Year” at the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni annual Founder’s Day luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.Also honored were two members who been in the group for 75 years. They are Mary Jane Hemry and Virginia Johnson. Women who have been members for 50 year were also introduced. They are Loritta Cleveland, Mary Fraley, Dru Marseilles, Mary Denman, Marcia Hunzicker, Linda Kennedy Rosser and Jean Watson.Elizabeth Prosser presented a slide show about the honorees. Susan Shumate was luncheon chairman and Amy Cottrell is president.

FINE DINING….Members of Delta Delta Delta alumni group met at Kam’s Kookery for dinner and a cooking demonstration by Kamala Gamble. She provided wine and hors d’oeuvres while demonstrating some of her special recipes.Then, Kamala served a wonderful dinner including butternut squash soup, pork tenderloin and pots de crème.

SPECIAL GUEST….Nancy Berry from New York City was in town to attend the Oklahoma City Community Foundation dinner and Annie and Dick Bohanon entertained at a cocktail party .
