RX: PARTY….New Oklahoma County Medical Society President Dr. D. Robert McCaffree and his wife Dr. Mary Anne McCaffree were honorees at a black- tie dinner at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

The event also featured an informal “roast” of the new president and the passing of the president’s gavel. Burns Hargis and Mike Turpen conducted the “roast.”A string quartet played during the cocktail hour. Kathy Bookman was the OCMS Alliance chairman of the dinner.
Black and white tablecloths were used and white candles and tall bouquets of calla lilies and of hydrangeas and lilies were on the tables. Flowers from the dinner were donated to Hospice of Oklahoma County. Dr. Bud Oehlert gave the welcome and Dr. Jay Cannon gave the “Don F. Rhinehart M.D. Medical Service Award” to Dr. James Michael Crutcher.
Among the 240 partygoers were Kathy and Dr. Larry Bookman, Debbie and Dr. Ron Sutor, Sharon and Dr. John Bozalis, Nina and Dr. Mukesh Parekh, Sherry and Dr. Gary Strebel, Jana Timberlake, Linda Larason, Debbie Adams, Carol and Dr. Jim Hampton, Dr. Teresa Shavney and Richard Knapp and Ann and Burns Hargis.

SPECIAL GUESTS…An afternoon tea in the home of Lil Ross honored past and present Byliner Award winners. The event, celebrating its’ 50th year, was hosted by members of the Women in Communications Association.
2008 honorees are Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, Gerry Bonds, Dr. Susan Chambers, Suzanne Edmondson, The. Hon. Carol Hansen and Jo Rowan.

LOTS OF CANDLES…Jamie Farha and Jeanne Polk were hostesses for their friends who celebrate January birthdays. It was in the Farha home which was decorated with lots of pink roses and pink daisies.
There was a strawberry cake, chocolate truffle cake and decorated sugar cookies.
Guests included Marjorie Polk, Brenda McDaniel, Lelah Craig, Annie Bohanon, Terry Bradley, Laurie Hyde, Patty Jones, Ranell Brown, Susan Hoffman, Liz Coe, Libby Denner, Cheryl Nikkel, Sue Ann Hyde, Dannie Bea Hightower, Betsy Daugherty, Mattie Perryman and Debbi Wehba.

OH JOY, IT’S A BOY….Mindy McCleery was honoree at a baby shower in the home of Judy Ferguson. Co-hostesses were Susan Moorman, Pat Timberlake, Kaye Adams and Mary Streich.
The hostesses gave her blue baskets with animals, toys and baby clothes. Gifts also included a scrapbook filled with pictures from Jennifer McCharen and a hand-knitted baby blanket from Dadie Bishop.
Among the others at the party were Marty McCharen, Gayle Sanger-Berry, Betty Pickett, Vicki Cherry, Taffy Fellingham, Erica Haas, Cindy McCharen and Linda Hill.

PASS THE VINO… Inaugurating a new wine society were members of the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. General Manager Oliver Boudin honored the new members with an Italian and French wine dinner.
Boudin and Sommelier Kasi Shelton created the dinner using both Italian and French wines and members were given the history and description of each wine and then they voted on their favorites. Italian wines were declared the winner.
Inducted into the Wine Society were Sue and Scott Spradling, Diana and Danny Kennedy, Nancy and Joe Warren, Evie and Jim Wood and Patty and Kent Cohenour. They were given green and purple Wine Society ribbons.
To celebrate the induction Boudin “sabered” a bottle of Champagne. During the ritual which began in the Napoleonic era, a bottle is opened with a single edge sword with a clean slice on the neck of the bottle. Each inductee was invited to saber a bottle.

WEEK OF CELEBRATION…Maggie Barrett spent last week celebrating her 75th birthday.Her brother, Jim Vallion, told her to invite friends for seven nights to go to her favorite places for dinner.She chose Iron Starr, Okura Sushi and Grill, 501 Café, Metro Wine Bar and Bistro, Boulevard Steakhouse, Charleston’s and the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
Also various friends took her to lunch. Wayne Hirst catered lunch for everyone in Trochta’s Flowers where Maggie works.She had numerous birthday cakes, lots of gifts and birthday cards and a lot of fun. “If I had known how much fun I would have, I would have been eager to get to 75, “she said.

CONGRATULATIONS….Ann Johnstone, one of the winners of the Oklahoma City University Awards of Excellence, was honored at dinner in the home of Pam and Bill Shdeed.Co-hosts were Joan and Mac Maguire, Debbie and Ken McKinney, Polly and Larry Nichols, Charlotte and John Richels.
The party was in the Shdeed home. Johnstone is the winner of the Norick-Hulsey Gallery Society award honoring Distinguished Women of Oklahoma. The event is February 23 at the Skirvin Hotel.
Other Awards of Excellence winners are Linda Haneborg, Annie Bohanon and Carol Blackwood.
