Parties Extra!—February 29, 2008—Boulevard Boys have lunch
Boulevard Boys Party…. Every month members of the all alumni Classen High School Boulevard Boys meet for lunch, date night or for golf. In February they had the annual Sweetheart luncheon at the Boulevard Cafeteria.
Nancy and Gene Sewell and Lily and Bill Dunlap were greeters and Maryland and Archer Stotts served the “Comet” Valentine cake. Claude Woody gave each person a candy party favor.
Classen School for Advanced Studies principal, Valorie Harris, was a special guest.
The “Entourage” Men’s Quartet with James Foster, Elvie Ellis, E.J. Thomas and Zach Thomas, also from Classen sang songs including “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “Dear Classen High School.”
Brian Anderson played classical guitar.

HONORING ANNIE….Gene Barth, Dannie Bea Hightower, Joan Frates, Sarah Hogan and Ann Hoover were hostesses at a party honoring Annie Bohanon who received one of Oklahoma City University’s Awards of Excellence. The party was in the Hogan home.
A picture of the honoree was set in the mirror in the dining room where candies, monogrammed petit fours, cheeses and fruits were served to the guests. Beautiful roses, tulips and hydrangeas in green vases decorated the tables, along with strands of pearls and hats, all depicting Annie’s traits.
A huge sign hung in the window saying “Congratulations to our Imaginative, Innovative, Incredible and Visionary Annie.” The sign was decorated with hats, pearls, glasses, gloves and shoes.
Hostess Ann Hoover welcomed guests and Bohanon gave a brief talk.

AFTER THE BALL…Rita Moore, Wanda and Bill Swisher, Cheryl and Stephen Browne and Meg and Chris Salyer honored Annie Bohanon at an “After the Ball Brunch”. It was at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country.
Bohanon received the Dulaney-Browne Society Award at the Oklahoma City University Awards of Excellence honoring Distinguished Women of Oklahoma.
Bouquets of white daisies were on the tables for the seated party, along with the hats, pearls and lots of confetti stars.
Table talk was about the dinner and dance the night before honoring four women including Bohanon, Ann Johnstone, Linda Haneborg and Carol Blackwood.

Parties Extra!—February 26,2007—Girl Scout Luncheon
ANNUAL JULIETTE LOW LEADERSHIP SOCIETY LUNCHEON

Susan Stamberg from National Public Radio was the featured speaker at the annual Juliette Low Leadership Society Luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. The luncheon benefits the Red Lands Council Girl Scouts and Stamberg was a Girl Scout herself.
Three Girl Scouts led the 450 women at the luncheon in the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law. Centerpieces were terra cotta pots with gardens of grass and Gerber daisies.
Long strands of pearls were sold for $20. (the price of a Girl Scout membership and pin). The pearl idea came from the fact that Founder in 1912 Juliette Low sold her pearls to found the Girl Scouts of the United States in Savannah, Georgia. Money from the pearl fund raiser will help girls who might not be able to join the program.
Kay Goebel and Joan Maguire were co-chairmen of the luncheon. They presented Jim Vallion a special certificate for assisting committee members with flowers since the inception of the luncheon.
Lou Kerr was honorary chairman and advisory committee members were Annie Bohanon, Marion DeVore, Christy Everest, Dannie Bea Hightower, Karen Luke and Polly Nichols.

PARTIES EXTRA!—February 25, 2008—INTEGRIS GALA ANNOUNCED

ANNUAL GALA.… April 5 is the date set for the 10th annual Integris Baptist Medical Center Foundation Circle of Friends Gala. It is a rock and roll party at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club which includes dancing, singing and hand jive.
Featuared entertainment will be Bowzer and the Stingrays, Danny and The Juniors and Shirley Allston Reeves.
Elaine Levy and Sherry Bennett are co-chairmen and Integris Health President and CEO Stan Hupfeld will be the master of ceremonies. The sponsor party will be in the home of Jill and Jim Williams.

PARTIES EXTRA!—FEBRUARY 22, 2008—TWO BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATED
BLACK-TIE BIRTHDAY….Two birthdays were celebrated at a formal event at the Oklahoma Heritage Center. Linda Barnett was host for a dinner dance honoring her husband, Jerry, for his 65th birthday, and her mother, Isabel Croft, for her 95th birthday.
100 friends and family members attended the black-tie party. They were entertained by The Mary Sallee Jazz group. Granddaughter Mackenzie Barnett sang.
John Turner and George Nigh gave tributes. Red and pink roses were on the tables and a five-course dinner was served.
PARTY FOR ART… Taos, New Mexico artist Marsha Siler Kidd was in Oklahoma City on February 15 with 40 of her impressionist oil paintings.
A wine and cheese reception at the Sportsman’s Country Club honored Marsha and husband Wayne Kidd.
A tall vase of flowers was set on the serving table and it held flowers of their home area, delphinium, snapdragons, daisies and roses, all in the colors of the artist’s palette. Marsha is also an avid gardener.
Marsha brought 40 paintings including Northern New Mexico vistas, flower scenes, Colorado landscapes, horses, current plein air pictures with lots of snow and a Taos pueblo picture. They came from Wichita, Ks., where they were visiting her parents who were celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.
Lela and Mark Sullivan entertained the artist at dinner.

KICK-OFF COFFEE…Karen Swyden and Cheryl Hewett invited friends to Judy and Tom Love’s home to tell them about an upcoming spring luncheon featuring Patty Duke and the Oklahoma Mental Health Consumer Council.
Swyden talked about the May 1 event at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country. Executive Director Kay Rote talked about OMHCC’s role in mental health in Oklahoma.
HEARTS AND COOKIES….Lots of sugar went down at the Valentine’s Party in the home of Annie and Dick Bohanon. Decorated cookies, cupcakes and candy were served to classmates of Meg, Julia and Ellie Bohanon. Co-hostesses were their mothers, Kristen and Kim Bohanon.

ROMANTIC EVENING….75 Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club members celebrated Valentine’s Day with a dinner/dance. Theme was New York City’s Central Park and plants and trees were set inside the Cypress Room, along with park benches and the Manhattan Skyline.
The Floyd Haynes Orchestra played for dancing. Bouquets of red carnations decorated the tables.
After the gourmet dinner, desserts included honey ginger pots de crème, strawberries with orange scented Chantilly Cream and chocolate truffles.

DOEL REED ART CENTER…Lela and Dr. Mark Sullivan and Ann and Burns Hargis invited their friends to the Sullivan house for a reception. They wanted to tell them about The Doel Reed Center for the Arts.The Center ( composed of three adode houses) in Taos, New Mexico, has been donated to Oklahoma State University by Martha Reed, Doel Reed’s daughter. The Center will be for national/international artists and scholars and will also have courses and programs in landscape architecture, English, History, Music, Theater, Geology, Geography, Physics and Botany. There is an OSU Art Department on site.Dr. Sullivan welcomed guests and Lela Sullivan told a little history about her grandfather, Henry G. Bennett who was an early day OSU president, and Doel Reed, the first professor of art at OSU. Burns Hargis introduced current art department, Sallie McCorkle and other OSU dignitaries at the party. Lela Sullivan presented a Doel Reed original print to OSU from her mother’s, Frances Bennett’s, collection.

BEST OF THE BEST…Beth Portman was introduced as “Theta of the Year” at the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni annual Founder’s Day luncheon at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.Also honored were two members who been in the group for 75 years. They are Mary Jane Hemry and Virginia Johnson. Women who have been members for 50 year were also introduced. They are Loritta Cleveland, Mary Fraley, Dru Marseilles, Mary Denman, Marcia Hunzicker, Linda Kennedy Rosser and Jean Watson.Elizabeth Prosser presented a slide show about the honorees. Susan Shumate was luncheon chairman and Amy Cottrell is president.

FINE DINING….Members of Delta Delta Delta alumni group met at Kam’s Kookery for dinner and a cooking demonstration by Kamala Gamble. She provided wine and hors d’oeuvres while demonstrating some of her special recipes.Then, Kamala served a wonderful dinner including butternut squash soup, pork tenderloin and pots de crème.

PARTIES EXTRA!—FEBRUARY 8, 2008—JOY OF SUSTAINER COOKING

SUSTAINERS COOK….Gail Bollinger demonstrated her culinary skills at a Junior League class called the “Joy of Sustainer Cooking. ”She showed women how to prepare the classic seven-minute icing for chocolate layer cake and how to blanch and cook fresh green beans.
Her lunch menu also included baked salmon which she and her husband, Lee Bollinger, caught in Alaska.This is the second cooking class in a series. Susan Robertson showed the group how to bake eggs and Carl Milam will have a class at Musashi’s.

FOND FAREWELL…Mary and Don Morrison were honorees at a party hosted by Linda and Bob Bowles.The group gathered for hors d’oeuvres in the Bowles home which was filled with Linda Bowles’ artwork. The group then went to Charlie Newton’s Restaurant for dinner.The Morrisons are moving February 27th to Spokane, Washington.

AND THE WRANGER GOES TO….Director of public relations and museum events at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Lynda Haller was honored at a reception. She is retiring after 13 years at the NCWHM.
Executive Director Charles Schroeder welcomed the guests and everyone enjoyed a telephone tribute to the honoree. Movie stars left recorded messages and pictures of them were shown on the big screen.Curator of the Cowboy Collections Don Reeves gave Haller a Jacque Smiley necklace. She also received the “Oscar of the West,” a “Wrangler,” sculpture of a cowboy on a horse. She presented her own video thanking her co-workers.

HOUSE PARTIES…Three neighbor couples hosted a progressive dinner to benefit Mount St. Mary High School. Manda and Mark Ruffin bought the auction item a couple of months ago and brought eight guests to the party.
Hosts were Patti and Mark Mellow, Meg and Chris Salyer and Lori and Ty Tyler. Kurt Fleischfresser of the Coach House cooked the food, including Beef Wellington.The Mellows served hors d’oeuvres, the Salyers had the main course and the Tylers were hosts for dessert. At the Salyers home vases held tropical flowers and the guests took the arrangements home as party favors.

RX: PARTY….New Oklahoma County Medical Society President Dr. D. Robert McCaffree and his wife Dr. Mary Anne McCaffree were honorees at a black- tie dinner at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

The event also featured an informal “roast” of the new president and the passing of the president’s gavel. Burns Hargis and Mike Turpen conducted the “roast.”A string quartet played during the cocktail hour. Kathy Bookman was the OCMS Alliance chairman of the dinner.
Black and white tablecloths were used and white candles and tall bouquets of calla lilies and of hydrangeas and lilies were on the tables. Flowers from the dinner were donated to Hospice of Oklahoma County. Dr. Bud Oehlert gave the welcome and Dr. Jay Cannon gave the “Don F. Rhinehart M.D. Medical Service Award” to Dr. James Michael Crutcher.

OH JOY, IT’S A BOY….Mindy McCleery was honoree at a baby shower in the home of Judy Ferguson. Co-hostesses were Susan Moorman, Pat Timberlake, Kaye Adams and Mary Streich.
The hostesses gave her blue baskets with animals, toys and baby clothes. Gifts also included a scrapbook filled with pictures from Jennifer McCharen and a hand-knitted baby blanket from Dadie Bishop.

PASS THE VINO… Inaugurating a new wine society were members of the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. General Manager Oliver Boudin honored the new members with an Italian and French wine dinner.
Boudin and Sommelier Kasi Shelton created the dinner using both Italian and French wines and members were given the history and description of each wine and then they voted on their favorites. Italian wines were declared the winner.
Inducted into the Wine Society were Sue and Scott Spradling, Diana and Danny Kennedy, Nancy and Joe Warren, Evie and Jim Wood and Patty and Kent Cohenour. They were given green and purple Wine Society ribbons.
To celebrate the induction Boudin “sabered” a bottle of Champagne. During the ritual which began in the Napoleonic era, a bottle is opened with a single edge sword with a clean slice on the neck of the bottle. Each inductee was invited to saber a bottle.

WEEK OF CELEBRATION…Maggie Barrett spent last week celebrating her 75th birthday.Her brother, Jim Vallion, told her to invite friends for seven nights to go to her favorite places for dinner.She chose Iron Starr, Okura Sushi and Grill, 501 Café, Metro Wine Bar and Bistro, Boulevard Steakhouse, Charleston’s and the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
Also various friends took her to lunch. Wayne Hirst catered lunch for everyone in Trochta’s Flowers where Maggie works.She had numerous birthday cakes, lots of gifts and birthday cards and a lot of fun. “If I had known how much fun I would have, I would have been eager to get to 75, “she said.

The party was in the Shdeed home. Johnstone is the winner of the Norick-Hulsey Gallery Society award honoring Distinguished Women of Oklahoma. The event is February 23 at the Skirvin Hotel.
Other Awards of Excellence winners are Linda Haneborg, Annie Bohanon and Carol Blackwood.
