Larry Lucas celebrated his 75th birthday with a party at The Coach House last Friday and then on Saturday, he and his wife, Jean Richardson Lucas, had a Mexican Fiesta in their home to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.
At the anniversary celebration family members played softball, fished and went swimming at the Lucas home. They also played the “ FYI Larry Game”, a board game based on his life.
That night there was a Mexican Fiesta attended by family members.

A family picture was taken at the home of Jean and Larry Lucas where a party celebrated the couple’s 30th wedding anniversary. The night before was Larry Lucas’ 75th birthday party at The Coach House.

PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 27, 2007- CELEBRATING WITH THE HELVEYS
A reception at the Petroleum Club was held in July when Michael Helvey, owner of Helvey International, signed a contract with Petronat International in Tanzania to build and deliver drilling rigs and service equipment to the East African nation.
The contract was inked in the Legislative Lounge on the 4th floor of the Oklahoma State Capitol. Nassir Yusuph, CEO of Petronat, was in town for the festivities.

PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 24, 2007- AUGUST PARTIES
POOLSIDE PARTY….Margaret and John Spears were the honorees at a recent party given by Stacey and Eric Stiglets in their new home. The Spears were married August 18th.
Tropical flowers decorated the tables which were set up around the swimming pool. Landscaping for the new home was still being planted the day of the party.

SHOWERING THE BAR…Lindsey Erhardt and Carlos Herrera were honorees at a bar shower given by Janie and Bill Comstock. The engaged couple will be married in September.
The hosts gave them cups with their names imprinted. Red and yellow sunflowers decorated the tables which had black and white checked cloths, plates and glasses.

PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 17, 2007- 35TH ANNIVERSARY

Rudy and Linda Hiersche have been married for 35 years.
STAY THE COURSE…The table was set with all sorts of special foods and guests were hidden all over the house when Linda and Rudy Hiersche arrived for a surprise party to celebrate their 35th anniversary.
The party, in the home of their daughter-in-law and son Christina and Justin Hiersche, was co-hosted by daughter-in-law and son, Crystal and Trey Hiersche. The very surprised couple thought the six of them were having a home-cooked dinner.
After the initial shocker, they enjoyed seeing a video presentation of their married life together with pictures of them when they first dated. Many of the guests had known them from college days.

CENTER OF ATTENTION…Anders Dorr, Corona del Mar. Calif., came in town with his mother, Sarah James Dorr, and they were honorees at a “Sip and See” party given by Shirley Everest, Susan Hoffman, Karen Samis, Lynn Samis and Mary Kay Samis in the Hoffman home.
A blue and white cachepot held an array of flowers, yellow calla lilies, tulips and roses and party foods featured cookies and cupcakes.

Bill Brown, Mary Ann Markey, Pete, Mike and John Brown surround their dad Cecil Brown who celebrated his 98th birthday.

TOP BILLING…Cecil Brown was 98 years old this week and Barbara and Pete Brown hosted a dinner in his honor. Pete cooked pork tenderloin outside on his grill, along with party hors d’oeuvres of bacon-wrapped chicken.
A special drink called “Rock and Roll” was served to the guests and was from an old recipe of Cecil Brown’s which included hard rock candy.

SPECIAL RECEPTION…A reception honored U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt, Washington, D.C.
Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation members gave the party at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 15, 2007- BRIDAL SHOWER

Margaret Enis who married John Spears August 18th was the honoree at a shower given by Gale Bollinger, Mary True Neumann, Chris Houk, Gwen Cockrill, Jessie Ann Arnold and Mari Imel in the Bollinger home.
The hostesses gave the bride a Duvet cover. Some other gifts included an antique silver basket from Corey Blake and Cara Barnes and Christmas ornaments from “The Bride’s Tree Collection” from Dixie Spears.

Sean Marie Butler celebrated her 2nd birthday party with a luncheon in the home of her parents, Lisa and Sean Butler. The Disney character, Cinderella, made a guest appearance. 80 Balloons decorated the home for the 40 guests. A large fountain filled with punch was served.

PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 12, 2007- IN SANTA FE
ON CANYON ROAD…Oklahoma residents were in Santa Fe, New Mexico, recently for the opening of Joan Marron LaRue’s art show. The show and reception was at Nedra Matteucci’s Fine Art Gallery on Canyon Road.
An Italian dinner followed the opening in the guesthouse at the Matteucci-Fenn Gallery.
Theme of the show was “Enchanted Coast: Sorrento to Amalfi” based on the recent painting trip that LaRue took to Italy.

Susan Coles, M.J. Van Deventer and Joan Marron LaRue were in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for LaRue’s art show.
LUCKY BOY…Heather and Billy Coyle were honored at a couple’s baby shower last weekend. Hosts were Shelley and (cq) Ceth Loomis and co-hosts were Stephanie and (cq) Zhawn Stevens, Sarah and Scott Humphreys, Meredith Brown and Gina and Brian Fowler.
There was a sundae bar in the Loomis backyard and table centerpieces were chocolate -colored vases filled with blue hydrangeas. Dinner was served indoors. Water bottles and glasses were personalized with “Baby Boy Coyle.”
Gifts ranged from a baby swing and a baby basket with monogrammed pillow and blanket and stroller to a silver spoon. The hosts gave the couple a baby bathtub and accessories and towels.

The couple’s baby boy is due in September.

IT’S PERSONAL…Joan Hunter was the honoree at a personal shower last weekend. Cyndi Cleary was hostess and assisting her were Tammy Robertson and Alice Lawson.
Gifts ranged from Oprah’s favorite body soufflé to manicure and pedicure gift certificates and lingerie. Red and pink roses and rose petals decorated the tables.
Hosts served Bloody Marys, Mimosas and Raspberry tea, along with such brunch items as quiche and fruit. Guests stayed after the party to swim in the Cleary pool.

THE KNIGHT… Paul Weigl was honored as the incoming state deputy of Oklahoma Knights of Columbus, a Catholic family fraternal organization.
Themed “A Knight In Margaritaville with Cheeseburgers in Paradise, “ the party featured what else, but cheeseburgers.
Weigl oversees 80 councils (about 7300 people) and their charitable and service projects throughout the state.
Among the 90 guests at the party were his wife Barbara Weigl and children, Matthew, Mark and Christopher Weigl, (cq) Kathaline Weigl, Ernie Chastain, Bernie Fonza, Max Schmitz, Richard Schulte, Dale Harrison, Leroy Weismann, George Denelsbeck and Greg Perry.
PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 9, 2007- JUNIOR LEAGUE HAS BOOK DRIVE

Members of the Junior League collected 5,000 books to be distributed to non-profit agencies in the community.
They partnered with Bank of Oklahoma, The Community Foundation, Barnes and Noble and News 9 to collect the books. Activities surounding the book collecting included author Tammi Sauer and a reading of “Cowboy Camp” at Barnes and Noble. Children participated in a cowboy craft. The book “Will Rogers” was read the next week and children were entertained by a Will Rogers impersonator and roping demonstration.
PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 5, 2007- HEFNER-SMITH RECEPTION

Leigh Hefner and Mark Smith were married August 4 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. The reception was at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
Their parents are Seyan and John Hefner and Jean and Bill Smith.
Maid of honor was Virginia Hefner and best man was Daniel Smith. Bridesmaids were Jordan Dean, Leah Edge, Alee Fowler, Katherine Heritage, Lauren Pralle, Jennifer Smith and Lily Urice. Groomsmen were Daniel Honiker, Brian Kelley, Jared Smith, Brian Smith, Kyle Stanhouse, Sean Strickland and Wesley Sullivant.
Ushers were Tyler Cates, Robert Champlin, Matt Diesselhorst, Jacob Fowler, Kyle McElvaney and Chris McGuire.
Flower girls were Helen and Mary Elizabeth Milam and Cecilia Carter and ring bearer was Max Cieminski.
The bride’s lovely wedding dress had a shirred, lace edged bodice and the slim skirt flared at the bottom with a lace hemline.
There was a six tiered white wedding cake at the reception topped with flowers and the bridegroom’s six tiered chocolate cake featured his monogram. A large array of lighted candles decorated the cake table.

PARTIES EXTRA: AUGUST 3, 2007- Welcome Home Leigh Ann and Paul
HOMECOMING…. When Leigh Ann and Paul Albers, both Oklahoma City natives, moved back from Virginia Beach, Va., recently, Barbara and Jay Quillian were hosts for a “Welcome Home” Party.
Co-hosts were Mary and Jim Richard and Diana and Jeff Beeler.
Former high school and college friends were at the party as well as a few 5th grade Casady parents since the Albers’ son Donald will go to Casady School.
It was also a rock and roll reunion as Paul Albers, Jay Quillian, Jim Richard and Steve Shelby had the local band “The Chessmen” in the late 1960’s and this was the first time the group had been together for 37 years.
Guests included Marty and Hoffie Smith, Ellen and Tim Fleming, Mary and Tom Kelly, Jill and Tom King, Kim and Joe O’Conner, Susan and Eric Eckman and Annette and Kent Carnahan. Gift from the hosts was the book “Oklahoma III” by David Fitzgerald and everyone wrote personal messages in it.

POLYNESIAN PARTY…Naureen Ahmad and Jeff Hubbard were honorees at a Polynesian buffet. They will be married August 11. Hosts at the party were Barbara and Jay Quillian, Marilyn and Bud Meade, Liz Meade, Patrick Quillian, Jennifer Edge, Shelley and Bill Swisher, Kathryn Swisher, Samina and Zaheer Baber and Omar Baber.
The party was held in the Quillian home and it was decorated with pineapple topiaries with orchids and lava rocks surrounding them. Former Oklahoma City residents Nancy and Herb Conley, Honolulu, assisted the hosts by sending fresh orchid leis for the honorees and their parents.

GOLDEN WEEKEND…. Donna and Tom Kerrihard celebrated their 50th anniversary last weekend. Their children, Karen Eckstein, Ken Kerrihard, Pam Sollars and Tim Kerrihard, were hosts for a come and go reception on Sunday, July 29, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The Kerrihards greeted guests at the front door of the Museum boardroom where there was a picture of them from their wedding in Carrollton, Illinois. A tiered wedding cake was decorated with daisies and roses. Guests were treated to a slide presentation of the family through the years.
The weekend started with a special blessing at St. Francis Catholic Church and then the family members gathered at Myriad Gardens for picture taking. Kristen and Casey Partridge were hosts for lunch and Kerri and Gerod Grigor had a dessert party.
Friday night dinner was at the Sportsman’s Club and on Saturday the family group was at the Sportsman’s Club pool and picnic area. That night Karen Eckstein had popcorn and cokes in her backyard where everyone watched home movies.
Besides the hosts at the various events, family members included Sherry and Kenny Kerrihard and children Danielle, Sara and Nicholas; Pam and Jonathon Sollars and children Jessica, Honour, Sean and Tess and Sue and Tim Kerrihard and children Sydney and Tommy.

SUMMER SOCIAL…Active, sustaining and provisional members of the Oklahoma City Junior League met for a “Summer Social” at the Iron Starr Restaurant. The activities committee organized the event for about 50 members.
The activities committee, now in its’ second year, plans women-only and family events for League members.
FAMILY FUN…Sarah Stringer Butler was hostess for a party to introduce new cousin Jacob Edward Bernard “Jeb” Koetting, Overland Park, Kansas, to Oklahoma City family and friends.
Jeb is the son of Kate Stringer Koetting and Jake Koetting.
Guests were his grandparents, Sally and Ed Stringer, aunts, uncles, cousins, Kate’s former classmates from Heritage Hall School and her University of Oklahoma Tri Delta sorority sisters. Jeb’s cousins Luke Butler and Thad Butler assisted their mom at the party.
