TO TERRY

Terry Neese, Laura Bush, President George Bush and Terry’s granddaughter Emily Brown of Yukon were at the White House Christmas
Party in December. Neese just received this card from the White House.
Theme for the Christmas party was “Deck The Halls and Welcome All.”
Terry and Emily toured the Library in the White House and viewed the
First Ladies Room filled with portraits of the Presidents’ Wives. The highlight of the party was a picture taken with George and Laura. He gave Emily his Presidential Seal lapel pin.

Engaged couple honored

Paige Edwards and Michael Frenzel, who are to be married in June, were honorees at a Mexican fiesta-theme party. There were 11 hosts for the party in the home of Sherry and Ike Bennett.

In the group were Madeline and Bob Carroll, Mary Lou and David Casper, Nancy and Jim Gormley, Becky and Jerry Greer, Dorothy and Jim Hazelwood, Winnie and Bob McCall, Peggy McMillan, Kathleen and Tim O’Toole, Billie and Billy Stout, and Nancy and Bill Varner.

ACCESSORIZE AND CELEBRATE

One hundred and twenty of Annie Bohanon’s friends gathered to celebrate her birthday at The Coach House. Hostesses asked them to “Accessorize and Celebrate,” and the fashionable crowd wore gloves, hats, necklaces, scarves, flowers and fur boas to complete their outfits. Many of them copied the honoree’s fashionable effects.

Bohanon wore an A-line dress with a fox jacket, red shoes, red gloves and red glasses. Several guests, including Martha Williams, Kaye Cook, Marylin Upsher and Joan Payne, wore hats, pearls, fishnet hose and pins similar to Bohanon’s attire.

Hostesses were Ann Alspaugh, Gene Barth, DeDe Benham, Kitty Champlin, Joan Frates, Ann Hoover, Beth Tolbert and Toni Weizenberg.

Cakes in the shapes of purses, eyeglasses, shoes and hats were served at the party. At the front door was a mannequin displaying “Annie’s Things” — red eyeglasses, pearls, gloves, scarves, roses and bracelets. Partygoers — none in snow attire despite the snowy weather — included Sue Timberlake, Tricia Everest, Marilyn Balyeat, Barbara Beeler, Susan Hoffman, Marion DeVore, Kristen and Kim Bohanon, Karen Browne, Pat Edwards, Sally Burpee and Barbara Cooper.

WALK ON OVER

Lela Sullivan invited members of the Early Morning Risers, a group that walks together every morning, to celebrate Sue Ann Hyde’s birthday.

The group had a wine and cheese party. Decorations and party favors had a Valentine’s Day theme.

In the group are neighbors Susan Dobson, Barbara Beeler, Cynda Ottaway, Marilyn Meade, Kathy Walker, Hyde and Sullivan.

BEACH PARTIES

During the holidays, Karen and Carroll Mayfield were in Maui, Hawaii. Their daughter Johannah Mayfield and Christopher Kersey of Houston were married at sunset on the beach of the Wailea Fairmont Resort. A dinner and dance followed at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Guests and wedding attendants included Margolyn, Matthew, Adam and Taryn Woods, and Monty, Jeremiah and Elizabeth Mayfield.

Parties Extra: Jan. 21-28

Coach’s dinner

Steve Shelley, Brad Shelley, Virgil Grantham, John Shelley and Tim Grantham attend the dinner and reception honoring Casady School coach and teacher Virgil Grantham. The alumni and current students celebrated his 40 years with the school and his retirement Dec. 31. He was presented a plaque and a “Voice Quilt,” a disc of vocal memories from students, coaches and alumni. Coach Grantham’s record included 23 Southwest Preparatory Conference championships in basketball, baseball and golf.

Parties Extra: Jan. 14-21

Casteels celebrate Epiphany with party

Patty and Len Casteel’s annual Epiphany festival in their home was the best ever. Friends gathered for excellent food and music.

Their collection of 50 sets of the Three Wise Men was displayed seemingly everywhere — on the mantel, the tables, at the front door and the fireplace hearth. Denise Smith and her band provided music.

The party, held Jan. 6, is always 12 days after Christmas.

The Casteel invitation noted: “‘Tis time to sing the carols of joy as we celebrate the birth of the Boy. We do this along with hymns of praise as the wise men did in olden days.”

Patty Casteel wore a black sweater embellished with sequined Wise Men.

Grandson Jaxon Casteel, 5, assisted the band on the drums.

Fun with friends

Mary Marshall Eilerts, assisted by Sabrina Rogers, surprised their friend Mary Ann Morrison with a 65th birthday party Jan. 5 at Cousin’s. Everyone was seated and having a wonderful time when Mary Ann walked in. She received a sparkly tiara, which she wore throughout the party.

Balloons decorated the chairs. Precious photos of the honoree as a young girl, some in dance costumes, decorated all the tables.

January Art Walk

The January Art Walk at the Paseo Art District opened Jan. 5 with receptions in most of the galleries. The show “Centennial Celebrations” at In Your Eye Studio and Gallery featured paintings, photography and jewelry. There was a wine-tasting party with wines from Sand Hill Vineyards near Calumet.

Artists showing at that gallery are Carolyn Chandler, Gayle Curry, Sarah Davison, Sue Hale, Jack Hill, Karen Orr, Randy Poe, Dana Powell, Jerry Rousseau and Doris Swanson. Closing date for the show is Jan. 27.

Place to be

Game day at the Fiesta Bowl was filled with tailgating parties, pep rallies, marching bands, cheerleaders and the University of Oklahoma’s Boomer Bash at the alumni headquarters at the Westin Kierland Hotel. Seven hundred people attended that event.

Surprising Bill

Deanna Kamp surprised her husband, Bill, at a 50th birthday party Jan. 2 at Bin 73 Wine Bar. There were 60 people there. Chris Balaban arranged the flowers, and Franny Pasternik made the cake. Other party food was from Bill Kamp’s Meat Market.

Shot glasses with photos of the honoree were given as party favors to guests who included Shannon and Chip Fudge, M.E. Gumerson, J.R. Hefner, James Mennella, Michelle and Ralph Frohling, Frank Boggs, Gerald Grimes, Joe White, Charles Weddle, Ken Brokaw, and Christa and Brooks Richardson.

Parties Extra: Jan. 7-14

Parents honor couple with engagement party

Dini Massad and Sam Homsey were honorees at an engagement party given by her parents, Nina and Paul Massad. It was in the Massads’ Oak Tree home.

A 5-foot heart ice sculpture bar held seafood, and the flower arrangements featured white roses and magenta orchids. Guests enjoyed slices of a large cake iced with messages in different languages, and monogrammed cookies.

MILITARY BALL

Members of the West Point Parents Club were hosts for the annual All-Academy Ball. It honored Oklahoma cadets and midshipmen in the United States Military, Naval, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and Air Force academies.

The event at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club, was a dinner and the 300 guests danced to the music of Box Talent.

Col. Larry Fleishman, retired Lt. Col. Steven D. Russell, retired Maj. Bill Bowden and Gen. Myles Deering were special guests. Russell and Fleishman were speakers.

Amy and Bill Bandi were event co-chairmen, and Dottie Daily is West Point Parents’ Club of Central Oklahoma president.

WITH A THEME

The annual open house with a pirate theme given by Mary Ellen Meredith and Samonia and Clay Pope was held in the Meredith home in Lincoln Terrace. The invitation asked guests to come in pirate wear. Skulls and crossbones were used in decorations.

DOWNTOWNE BROWNES

Cheryl and Stephen Browne and their daughter-in-law and son, Natalie and Stephen Browne Jr., were hosts for a holiday event. The party invitation invited friends for “Christmas with The Downtowne Brownes.”

Once an annual party, this was the first holiday event at Cheryl and Stephen’s home since 2000. “Lots of invitations came back,” Cheryl Browne said, “as many addresses had changed from our original list.”

Dad Stephen Browne, assisted by his son, smoked ham and pork for the party meats. Natalie Browne added her marinated shrimp and old-fashioned fudge, and Cheryl Browne created 28 pounds of chili dip.

Guests included Annie and Dick Bohanon, Christy and Jim Everest, Billye and Jimmy Austin, Jeannine and Gene Rainbolt, Jeaneen and Bob Naifeh, Sally and Dick Burpee, Alison and Scott Calhoon, Ford Price, Tricia O’Hara, and Janice and Joe Dan Trigg. Also attending were Liza Browne and Sue Magness from Dallas.

There were 56 hosts for the 22nd annual “Gentlemen’s New Year’s Eve Party” at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club. All are current or former members of The Registry, The Alliance and The Committee.
