Party marks arrival of holiday season

Susan Parker and Drew Neville celebrated the arrival of the holiday season with a dinner and dance Nov. 18 at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. After greeting guests as they arrived, the hosts served a lovely buffet dinner. During the dessert course, catchy eyeglasses were passed out as party favors.

CELEBRATING 50

Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni gathered Nov. 13 in the home of Martha and Ron Bradshaw to honor the chairmen of their 50 Flaming Festivals.

Trustee Suzanne Sterling King of the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation from Lubbock, Texas, attended.

Among the guests was Helen Edwards Woodward, who retired from 30 years of service to the Thetas. She was national president of the sorority and national Panhellenic delegate.

Parties Extra: Nov. 13-19

Private show displays artwork

Former Oklahoma City residents Kim and Peter Robbins of Lucas, Texas, were in town recently to show Peter’s new artwork. He is a photographer and has enhanced his cowboy photos with pastels and oil paints.

Bobbie and Galen Robbins, Barbara and Hank Watson, and Linda and Ken Howell entertained at a private showing and cocktail party at The Howell Gallery.

Peter Robbins’ cowboy art was hung throughout the gallery. Guests munched on hors d’oeuvres and mingled with the overflow crowd of partygoers. Cowboy boots filled with wildflowers, wheat and fall leaves decorated the buffet table.

Pink or blue

Judy and Jim George, and Whitney and Michael Stone entertained at dinner for parents-to-be Amanda and Ben Olszewski of Chicago. They were in town visiting her parents, Helen and Jack Woodward of Norman. Guests brought unwrapped gifts for the baby, whose arrival is expected in January. The party invitation stated “Pink or Blue? We don’t have a clue.”

Fall flowers decorated the tables at the seated-dinner party. Among the guests were Elizabeth Prosser, Warren Edwards, Anne and Bill McCurdy, and Suzy and Gary Rawlinson.

Cindy’s Birthday

Cindy Hollingsworth celebrated her 60th birthday with friends at Cattlemen’s Steak House Event Center.

The invitation was a cutout of pink cowboy boots with pearls. A pink ice-sculpture cowboy boot filled with pink and white carnations and pearls formed the centerpiece, and the birthday cake was shaped like a pink cowboy boot.

A band played, and a ventriloquist entertained guests including Sharon and David Wade, Helen and Bob Sullivan, Chelin and Gregg Satherlie, Judy Lehmbeck, Laurie and Jim Hyde, Sandra LeVan, Sally and Steve Bentley, Brooke Phillips, Jeannine and Gene Rainbolt, Kanela Huff, Connie Givens, Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci, and Paul Ziert.

Trivia Challenge

Members of the Bishop McGuinness Alumni Association held the first annual “Trivia Challenge, Clancy’s Challenge.” Clancy is the McGuinness mascot, a little Irishman toting a shillelagh. The challenge in the new education center commons area held 240 contestants for 10 rounds of trivia, with each round in a different category. People could register an entire team table or could be assigned to a team. The trophy was a shillelagh from Ireland.

As part of working to activate the alumni group, this was the first of several yearly activities. John Fritch is alumni association president.

Remembering the Past
There were 50 alumni and college members at the Delta Delta Delta Alumni Founders’ Day luncheon at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club.

Linda Lowe was chairman, and Joan Hemrick won the new Life Loyalty Award. Golden Circle members were special guests.

Paige Edwards and Michael Frenzel were honored at an engagement party in the home of Janie and Jon Axton. Co-hosts were Patsy Gaberino Carey, Linda and Bob Reece, and Marilyn and Gene Torbett.

Engaging

An Italian theme was used for the party honoring the engaged couple, who are planning a June wedding.

Among the party guests were Laura and John Frenzel, Dallas; Lois and Blake Jones, and Christopher and Josh Jones, all of New Orleans; Elaine and Gene Edwards, and Nita and Bill Griffin, all of Amarillo, Texas.

It’s my party

Georgia Downs and daughter Julia Downs, 6 months, of Portland, Ore., and Ashley Houk of San Francisco attend the party for friends to meet Julia. Houk and Lance McDaniel, the baby’s godparents, were hosts. The Downs were visiting grandparents Chris and Paul Houk.

Bud Rutledge, Jean Murphy, David Goss and Lindy Davis attended The Committee fall party at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, where the Phillips Wright Project Band played. Nancy Riley was at the piano during the cocktail hour. Red roses decorated the tables.

Three cheers

Lisa Voegeli, Kanela Huff, Sue Magness and Kyle Anderson celebrate Magness’ 60th birthday with a party in the Huff home. Co-hosts were Anderson, Kim and Phillip Bohanon, Rawsie and Sonny Boyles, Connie Givens, Beverly and Ted Groom, Pam Smith and Voegeli. Guests came 30 minutes before the University of Oklahoma-Texas A&M football game kickoff. The party’s theme, “Three Cheers for Sue Magness – She’s Turning 60,” was carried out in red and white decorations. “Happy Birthday” cheerleader megaphones, red OU dishes, and red and white carnations and mums were decorations.

Cari Luncheon

A large crowd was at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club for a Cardiac Arrhythmia Research Institute, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, luncheon Wednesday. The event was dedicated in “loving memory” of the late Jean Gumerson. Edidi one of a kind purses and jewelry were featured. This group brings in wonderful speakers (mostly patients) and designers for their parties. Jeff Garlin. comedian and actor, gave the patient testimonial. Linda Haneborg was master of ceremonies. Pam Ivester Millington is Cari executive director. Among the guests were Kate Stanton, Jose Freede, Liz Coe, Linda Garrett, Peggy Gandy,Sara Northwood, Pat Gallagher, Eunice Ellis, Joy Richardson,Cathy Freede, Sharon Seminoff, Mary Ann Harroz, Lil Ross, Becky Roten, Penny McCaleb, Barbara Beeler, Jeannette Sias and Jenee Lister.

Jidge Verity was the honoree at a surprise birthday given
by family members in the home of Jamie and Dan Reineke. Hosts were
Chris and Matt Verity, Alison and Ryan Turner and Alison and Ryan
Turner. Televisions were turned on for the OU-Texas A&M football game.
