Taking the stage

Austin and Laura Kirkpatrick and Lindsey and Ryan Mitchell celebrate Austin Kirkpatrick’s and Ryan Mitchell’s 30th birthdays with a party at Nancy’s 57th Street Light House. The honorees and their guests enjoyed the karaoke singing and had lots of food and birthday cake.

Preview party

Laura Kriegel, Heidi Cohn and Stephanie Holbrock celebrate the opening of this year’s Junior League Mistletoe Market at an evening preview party in the Cox Pavilion at State Fair Park where a silent auction featuring items from the merchants was in progress. Shoppers viewed holiday items, had homemade hors d’oeuvres and visited with friends. Kriegel was Mistletoe Market chairman and Betsy Mantor is Junior League president. On the Mistletoe Market board are Kathryn P. Wilson, Valerie Aubert, Kimberly Anders, Wendy Mounger, Amy Mattingly, Susie Graves, Leslie Littlejohn, Leslie Keams, Lisa Shinn, Christi Coyle, Sarah Frank, Heidi Cohn, Liz Robins, Becky Denny and Bonnie Schwarz.

Royals assemble

Larry Nichols, Ralph Thompson and Tom Dulaney, all former kings of the Beaux Arts Ball, gathered for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the home of Nichols. They meet yearly to discuss the upcoming ball, scheduled for Nov. 25, and to speculate about who the next king will be.

Sue Timberlake, Penny McCaleb, Barbara Simons and Beth Wells are in the “One and Onlys” party group that met in the home of Simons. Co-hostesses were Beccy Fike, Wells, Carole Jo Evans, Evalie Edwards, Kay Oliver, McCaleb, Sally Bentley, Timberlake, and Susan Sigmon. Since it was close to Halloween, the hostesses wore witches’ party hats and served goblin-decorated sandwiches and Halloween cookies in the shape of lime green monsters and purple bats. They also had a chocolate fountain.

Lela Sullivan and M.J. Van Deventer show their books about their friend, the late Mex Frates. They were guests at a “Celebration of the life of Mex Lloys Frates” party given by Sarah Hogan, Jeaneen Naifeh and Ann Alspaugh at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

Beth Wells, Patti Ross and Dee Harris show donated vintage purses at the Junior League Remarkable Shop party in the home of Carleen Burger. Guests brought new and used items for the shop, some of which will go up for sale on eBay.

Ladies who lunched

Ann Bohanon, Marylin Jones Upsher and Dannie Bea Hightower were at the luncheon to honor Upsher, one of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation Wall of Fame honorees. Bohanon and Hightower were hostesses at the event held at The Coach House. Other guests included Shan Samis, Martha Williams, Joan Yinger, Mary Clements, Carolyn Mee, Libby Blankenship, Jean Warren, Kaye Cook, Lela Sullivan and Nancy Arnold, Janell Everest, Carolyn Berry, Ann Alspaugh, Martha Mullally, Sarah Hogan, Donna Moler, and Harrylou Egolf. Entertainment was provided by the choir from Wilson Elementary School where Upsher attended. Party favors were No. 2 yellow pencils tied with flowers and pencil holders with flowers and apples, reminiscent of school days.

Designer Lunch

Joanna Champlin arrived at the luncheon given by Susan and Peter Hoffman in their lovely home. It honored jewelry designer Gurhan and his wife Fiona Tilley from New York City. They were in town for the eighth anniversary celebration and Gurhan trunk show at Valerie Naifeh’s jewelry store. Other guests were Karen Samis, Barbara Cooper, Susan Parker, Sue Homsey and Linda Tripp.

Parties Extra: Oct. 15-23

Hostesses honor mother-to-be at shower

A luncheon and baby shower were given for Tira and Billy Hightower in the home of Libby Payne. Co-hostesses were Christy Everest, Shirley Everest, Susan Parker, Candy Ainsworth and Linda Klos.

The baby girl is due in November, so the honorees, who live in Evanston, Ill., could not get to the party. Billy Hightower is in a general medicine internship program there.

Gifts included four sets of baby dishes, prompting one guest to remark that they should have picked out a china pattern for the baby-to-be.

The hostesses’ gift to the honorees was opened by grandmother Millie Hightower. It was a pink-and-white quilt. Jan Parker knitted the baby a sweater, and great-grandmother Dannie Bea Hightower gave her a Herend china baby shoe.

FAMILY FUN

Dorie Seikel Barrett was honoree at an 80th birthday dinner given by Jeary and Mike Seikel. A gift from the hosts featured a video about the honoree. A multi-tiered lemon cake was served.

Among the guests were Emily, Matt, Steven, Beep, Linda and Paul Seikel; Stacy and John Thomas; and Robin, Jessica, Liz, Ali and John Reynolds.

“PINK” PARTY

Marcie and Joe Isaacson were hosts for a party that featured the color pink as a theme. The hostess wore a hot pink taffeta cocktail dress.

It was at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club.

Pink invitations, lights, candles, tablecloths and a pink tree decorated with pink ribbons were part of the decorations. Among the desserts were strawberry cookies. Among the partygoers were Donna and George Nigh, Jenny and David Kallenberger, Kelly Klontz, and Sandra and Mike Kirk.

WINE TASTING
Oklahoma State University Alumni Association members were at the Beacon Club for the annual wine tasting party. Pistol Pete kicked off the activities.

The group enjoyed wines and music by the OSU Jazz Band. Two chocolate fountains, one decorated in white and orange, were among the desserts.

The Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City floral class created orange floral centerpieces.

“Lifetime Volunteer: Mex Frates”

Sarah Hogan, Jeaneen Naifeh and Ann Alspaugh were hostesses for a partyon October 18th at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club
celebrating the life of Mex Frates and the book about her called
“Lifetime Volunteer-Mex Frates” written by Joan Gilmore. They had 100
of the books available for guests to buy and the author signed them.

Champagne Reception
Meg and Chris Salyer hosted the Champagne Reception on
October 18 preceding the next night Wall of Fame dinner at the Oklahoma
City Golf and Country Club. The 2006 Award winners were at the party.
They are Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange, Rodman Frates and Marylin Jones
Upsher.The Salyers’ beautiful home was filled with fall flowers and
each of the honorees gave a brief talk about their respective public
schools and also thanked members of the Wall of Fame Humanitarian
Award committee.

A cocktail buffet in the home of Sherry and Jerry Cash
featured beautiful jewelry by “Me&Ro” who are Robin Renzi and Michele Quan.
Bebe’s Shop in Nichols Hills Plaza and Project Early Detection from
Mercy Hospital Women’s Center were sponsors for the power jewelry
display from which ten percent of sales were given to benefit the
Women’s Center. A special draw for the crowd attending the party was
the spectacular Cash home which has just been remodeled.

Executive installs officers at annual dinner

New officers were installed at Executive Women International dinner Oct. 10 at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.

Linda Walker Brown from The Oklahoma Publishing Co. took the gavel as president. She and the other new officers were installed by the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Christy Everest. Brown will serve a one-year term followed by a year as adviser.

The Loyalty Factor
Jim MacKellar celebrated his 50th consecutive University of Oklahoma-Texas University football game in Dallas with a cocktail party at the Hilton Anatole on Oct. 6. Wife Bette was hostess for the party and special guest was their grandson Bolen MacKellar, 4 months. His diaper cover was embroidered with “Boomer Sooner, ” thus beginning a new generation of 50-year OU supporters.

MacKellar wore a hat proclaiming his 50th year and flowers, pompoms, shakers and memorabilia were set on tables at the Anatole suite where the party was held. Bette MacKellar wore an lighted antique OU pin.

Business Reception
A party also held in Dallas during OU-TU weekend was the annual reception held by members of the Michael F. Price College of Business. It was on the 29th floor of the Hilton Anatole and alumni and friends of the college filled the party room. Kenneth R. Evans was introduced as the new dean of the school. He will begin his duties in January.

New fiction
Bud Meade has written a new book (fiction this time) and was the honoree and book signer at a reception at Full Circle Bookstore. He has written two other books about horses and foxhunting. “Marland’s Ghost… A Simon Rush Mystery” has just been published (I think it’s a great read).

For Art’s Sake

Local attorney and artist Ryan Cunningham was honoree at a cocktail party at Café Nova where his paintings, “Horses of the American West, ” were installed for viewing.

The furniture was moved out of the dining area so people could see the 4-by-4 paintings. Wine and hors d’oeuvres were served to the guests who included Bonnie and Bert Seabourn, Suzanne Mears, Suzanne and Stan Cunningham, Stan Cunningham, James Cates, Julee and J.W. Trumpeter David Hooten entertained at the MacDowell Club of Allied Arts for the luncheon meeting at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club. Also on the program was Julie Wyrick. She is a photography student at OU and University of Central Oklahoma and a MacDowell scholarship recipient.

Beat Texas President’s Associates Brunch

Enthusiasm was high at the University of Oklahoma President Associate’s Brunch at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. President David Boren and his wife Molly Shi Boren were hosts for the pre-party. The OU Marching Band made an appearance as well as the OU cheerleaders. The group of party-goers went to the Cotton Bowl via bus with major police motorcycleescorts.
