Sarah Palin’s train-wreck campout with Kate Gosselin

I decided awhile ago that I wasn’t going to follow or write about “Sarah Pailn’s Alaska,” mostly because it doesn’t really fit the type of things I write about here. It’s a reality show set in Alaska, not an outdoors show about Alaska. But there are some days when I have to break the rules. This is one of those times.

The latest episode had the Palin clan greeting Kate Gosselin and her eight children for a campout, Alaska-style. What I expected was one thing (I didn’t watch), but what happened was something else, according to this blog post from Entertainment Weekly’s Ken Tucker: http://watching-tv.ew.com/2010/12/12/sarah-palin-alaska-kate-gosselin/?hpt=T2

Read that, and read it close. All I can say is, “Wow.”

I’ll let Mr. Tucker offer the commentary on Ms. Gosselin’s antics. Here’s my question for you: What’s the worst campout experience you’ve ever had? Or, more concisely, share your experience with us about the one person on a campout who rained on everyone else’s time.

Let’s hear it, folks!

Kate Definitely has a lot to learn about class, in her case no-class. She was pouty, whiney, complaining, rude, and disrespectful it was all about her. Her kids were having a blast. The worst was when she ask the kids if they wanted to be a Palin or go with her. Enough of her!! she needs some lessons in life!!! SHE WAS DISGUSTING

Like I said, I didn’t see the episode. But from what I read from the Entertainment Weekly blog post, it sounds bad. I can’t imagine taking family to a place like Alaska, with all the buildup that would bring, get outdoors, and then pull the plug on the whole thing by making the kids choose between being part of the family or continuing with the campout. I imagine the Gosselin kids will remember that experience for the rest of their lives, but for all the wrong reasons.

i saw the show and once again Kate Gosselin acted like a spoiled little brat, telling her kids that they were no longer a gosselin, this lady needs some help i watched her show a few times before the divorce i couldnt never understand how that man could stand to be with that controlling witch

Wow is right! Shame on Kay, those poor kids, the look on the boys faces was heart breaking, i cried! She is one rude, ruthless bozo! John get your kids away from her, before she does more damage to their mental health, shame on you to John, for letting your kids go thur that can cruel punsihment with her! Now that is “Cruel Punsihment” as she put it!

Most people who watch these shows either don’t have kids or only have one or two. I have five, and therefore feel a little more qualified to speak on these things.
Kate has a LOT of work in her life, every single day. Her kids are still pretty young and take a lot more care and hands on time than most people realize. Camping is NOT relaxing when your life is already filled with so much work, and I don’t blame her for having a less-than-enthusiastic attitude about the whole thing.
Did she act like a baby? Yeah, probably. But I also think that it was stupid to go camping in the rain just to (most likely) meet a production schedule, and I also really think it was stupid on TLC’s part to take all these kids- who have never gone camping in their lives- to such a remote area. Why not let them camp in a National Park somwhere in Alaska with Sarah and her family? Maybe a campground with cabins, or at least with bathrooms! It would have made a lot more sense for FIRST TIME CAMPERS (!!), and would have been a way for Sara to still “show off” her state while making it an enjoyable experience for everyone. I honestly think it was wrong to pull this kind of a stunt on Kate. The kids were having fun, I guess, but I can tell you from experience that things can go south pretty fast with little kids once nightime comes when they’re tired and hungry, etc. Cut Kate some slack. Most of us wouldn’t have done any better.

Interesting take. I can see hour point, though I wonder if most parents would see their kids having fun and just grin and bear it. On my first camping trip, the conditions were not much different.

To Ma- You’re funny you made me laugh & I appreciate your point of view…but Kate isn’t responsible for the kids daily (except financially- I’ll give her that one) she has full time nannies staffed to care for the kids & if you watched the episode the Palins were taking care of & entertaining her kids the day of the camping trip.

I think it’s horrible to tell your kids that they will no longer be a part of your family just because they enjoy something you don’t, especially camping it’s not like they killed somebody. All I can say is I watched the episode & I haven’t seen Kate act this bad since Jon was in the picture. And if she thinks this is what its like to be homeless she may want to look a little farther into that one I know many homeless people who would give life & limb to have amentities like that.

@Ma……Do you have nannies and a bodyguard to help you with your children? From what I understand Kate has plenty of help with those children on a daily basis. Have you ever sat through a sporting event for one of your children in the rain, cold, or snow? I have and I did it for them, not me. There were many adults at that campsite to help with the children and I’m sure protect them from any harm. Kate dragged those kids through NYC during a heat wave because it was something “she” wanted to do. I could go on and on about the selfish things Kate does with no regard whatsoever for her kids feelings or welfare. You can cut her some slack if you choose to be delusional but you’re not getting any from me. She’s a miserable human being. Period.

Let’s face it, folks, she is and has always been a bi*ch. But even your run of the mill bi*ch can possess some manners. If this is how she behaves with a camera on her, I just hate to think what goes on in ‘private’……poor Jon got such a bad rap, but it was and is still mostly ‘her.’ I actually feel sorry for those kids. Imagine being given the message that if you don’t give me the answer I want, I disown you.

Dear Mr writer LOL. At first I was as unsure and taken back by this show as you are. I am a resident of Maine and live the life and love it as Mrs Palin does. From what I have seen she is so pure and unique to her home state that makes ne proud to have people still like that in my lifetime to love and appreciate the land and life like I. When Kaye gossilin appeared in the show it gave a lit of unatured people no hope. I love the life and feel lucky To live it. As for Kate. I’m sorry but your actions on the show made everything clear and simple. People Luke Kate are out to show boat there children for here own needs but Sarah is a flipside to how hard it is to live in a big State with little population. I chearish every moment here and I wish there were more people of power to respect the land and people as Sarah Palin does. .. Thank you

WELL i have 4 children myself and i myself have tent camped since i was a small child, my children now all grown love to also go camping, Kate Gosselin should have stayed home so her kids could have had more fun there are a lot of people out there should have had to fill out a form before they had kids, she is one of them
