Good to know there's someone out there who is getting good information to people wanting to make the trek. It's become a destination of sorts, but not one that is without its risks. Her death was tragic. Might it be safe to say that river crossings in Alaska have their own particular dangers?

Hi Bob,

I run a resource site for hikers considering hiking the Stampede Trail to Bus 142.

On the site we discuss the risks, teach the proper techniques, and try to help hikers going out at the same time find each other so they can hike in groups for safety (both for the crossing and for bears.)

Ms. Ackermann's death was tragic. Sometimes bad things happen even to prepared people. From what I've heard, she had a decent amount of experience from the mountains of Switzerland. Really a shame.

Stay safe everyone.
