I think you’ll find that he acknowledges his mistakes and is a proponent of taking proper precautions before venturing out solo. It’s never fun being a cautionary tale, but hif you live to tell about it, wisdom gained from such experiences can be passed on to others. But yes, Mr. Ralston is very lucky to be alive today.

only an idiot goes into a canyon alone without telling anybody where he is. he’s lucky he didn’t die, but he definitely doesn’t deserve a movie about his stupid blunder.
