New movie, ’127 Hours,’ profiles true life story of Aron Ralston
A new movie is coming out soon which is based on the story or Aron Ralston. The film is called “127 Hours.”
You might remember Ralston as the Colorado man who in 2003 got stuck in a Utah slot canyon when a boulder moved and trapped his arm. To escape, he had to use a knife to cut off his own arm, then find help once he got out of the canyon.
This is one of those stories filled with drama. The ultimate show of will when it comes to self rescue in the backcountry, but also a cautionary tale of a near tragedy that could have been avoided with a few precautionary steps.
Ralston is an accomplished mountaineer and canyoneer, but one of the biggest mistakes he made was not telling people where he was going on his solo trip to the canyon.
You can read his own account of his time trapped in Blue John Canyon here: http://outsideonline.com/outside/features/200409/aron_ralston_1.html?page=1

I think you’ll find that he acknowledges his mistakes and is a proponent of taking proper precautions before venturing out solo. It’s never fun being a cautionary tale, but hif you live to tell about it, wisdom gained from such experiences can be passed on to others. But yes, Mr. Ralston is very lucky to be alive today.

only an idiot goes into a canyon alone without telling anybody where he is. he’s lucky he didn’t die, but he definitely doesn’t deserve a movie about his stupid blunder.
