‘Alone in the Wild’ update: Health concerns mean Ed Wardle has to pull the plug early

A couple more videos from Ed Wardle, who is attempting a three-month solo stay in the Yukon wilderness in Canada. It’s not going well for him right now, as his body, starved of nutrients, is beginning to slow to the point of shutting down. Here’s the first video:

Not a good sign. You catch that about his heart rate slowing to the upper 20s? Here’s the second video:

You can tell by watching that the emotional toll of being alone on meager rations has been high. It looks like he’s about done. Ed and everyone involved in the project decided to cut the experiment short from the planned three-month stay. A promo on the Web site looks like it will be cut to about 50 days or so.
Fascinating look at what happens to people in a harsh wilderness setting when all they have to live off is what they can carry, catch and gather. Ed said he feels like he failed, but I disagree. The show will begin airing next month.

You didn’t fail, Ed. You survived where most would never have gone in the first place. Yours was an amazing feat that I can only dream of attempting. Hats off to you. I can’t wait to see the show.

Well said, Stephanie. Most people wouldn’t last a week without begging to get out of there. Ed was out there for several weeks. Tough gig. Well done. Like you, I’m anxiously awaiting the show’s debut.

Amazing Ed! I salute with the kind of character that you possess!

Bottom Line: The sniveling cry-baby failed, barely making it halfway through his challenge. Needed to be more resourceful, intuitive and mentally fortified. Surprised that the powers that be didn’t pick up on this and choose someone more suited to this type of challenge (not saying a survival expert, but someone with the mettle to see it through to the end). And before I come under attack, yes, I have challenged myself in ways similar to this and while I certainly wouldn’t say that I am a better man than him, I do have a makeup that would have resulted in better outcomes.

I applaud his attempt and deem his experience to be worth viewing.

Interesting, applauding his attempt and villifying him as a crybaby. Let’s not forget, he did have the mettle to summit Mount Everest.

I think his ‘personality make up’ isn’t suited well for being alone in the wild.the fact that he climbed the Mount Everest doesn’t mean he is made for staying alone in the bush, these are not parallel tasks(people make this mistake all the time ith many things).you got people who can’t stand being/living alone(always with the wrong partner).his way of being so emotional showed clearly his weak spot.I’m definitely not trying to pick on him.i like him as a person.i think he is a very nice friendly guy.but just not made for staying in the bush ALONE for a longer period.it’s too hard on his psyche.he needs company.then he can do A LOT

and i have to ad.
this crying of him sometimes mademe smile in a good way.
i was like.come on man.the whole world is watching what you are filming.you are NOT alone.not really.not in the end.
;-P
