Colbert Report tonight: American super-climber Ed Viesturs
I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.” Some of the best satire around. Anyway, he has an interesting guest on tonight’s show: Ed Viesturs. Viesturs is, quite simply, the greatest American high altitide mountaineer there is. He’s climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks (including seven ascents of Everest, hsi most recent being this May) and has done them all without supplemental oxygen. So he’s a great mountaineer AND a freak of nature.
His book “No Shortcuts to the Top” was a hit and is a favorite of mine. And he’s got a new book coming out called “K2: Life and Death on the World’s Most Dangerous Mountain.” I’ll be picking that one up, for sure. (Site: http://www.edviesturs.com/)
Anyway, Viesturs has been on Colbert before. If you want to see a video of his last appearance (2007), check this out. It’s pretty funny.
