Good news, adventure fans: ‘Everest Beyond the Limit’ is back!
The 2008 Beijing Olympics put a damper on one of my favorite reality/adventure shows, “Everest Beyond the Limit.” In order to allow a Chinese team of climbers to take the torch up Everest’s north slopes, the government pretty much squashed the Everest climbing season that year from the Tibetan side. Since that’s where the first two seasons of Discovery’s program were based, it left us without the benefit of watching Russell Brice haul a new group of would-be mountaineers up the world’s highest peak last year.
But the program will be back next fall, according to Discovery.com. This time, they’ll be climbing from the mountain’s south side (Nepal) and will take the route made famous by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzig Norgay.
If you want to get a preview of the season, check this link to a blog on the 09 climbing season:

That’s awesome that you hiked with Himex. If you have the time, would love to hear more about it. And like you, I’m anxiously awaiting the show’s return. I’m a sucker for mountains.
I haven’t actually written much up on the subject to be honest. It was really just a hike, the real climbers are the guys with the interesting stories. But I have to say, as disappointed as I was to turn back, Himex were absolutely fantastic, the logistics are second to none. The sherpa who brought me back down was a legend, literally saved my life at least twice as we went. His pride and love of his country was absolutely inspiring. It’s such a different place. I’m from Ireland and this was my first time leaving Europe. I recommend it to anyone, once you dont mind a bit of suffering! I will try and post up more!
http://picasaweb.google.com/jwstafford (a mate of mine who came with me, there’s some nice pics there, i’m the red haired shorter guy, he’s the big lanky guy!) might give you a feel for the thing. Russell, joined up higher by coptor as his leg was still hurting from surgery so he’s not really in the pics!
hey ROSS i was thinking about doing the everst base camp trek i love this series beyond the limit and do a fair bit of hilll walking in my free time. i looked at your pictures they r class. coudl you tell me roughly how mucht the entire trip cost. you.. have you done any other trekking/ climbing. im also keen to do kilimanjaro in the near future!
I have not done anything like it before. It was 2k for the trip (all in euros), 1,200 for the flights with Gulf Air. The gear cost a LOT but russell rents most things very cheaply in Nepal.
Other than that it is just spending money, money for the hotel if you want to spend a little more time. A guided tour from Mountain Experience cost 10 US dollars
Food and drink are VERY cheap over there, but you will need to buy water every day for the walking, it is about 1 euro a bottle in the hills.
Hope that helps.

YEEEES! I hiked with Himex this year to everest basecamp (well almost, damaged feet I’m afraid put a dampener on things) and met all the climbers that will be on the show. They’re a great bunch of people, and very diverse. I’d say it’s gonna be another cracking season of the show.
i have to admit i was very nervous with the fact the North side was closed and there are SO MANY people on the South this year, so we’ll see by the time the show is on how it went!
The blogs for the himex climbers are on http://www.himex.com anyways, but obviously spoilers!
David Tait was back again, how hardcore can one man be?!
