About Ed Godfrey
Ed Godfrey is a lifelong Oklahoman, a true Okie from Muskogee.
Godfrey was born in Muskogee in 1960 but raised in Stigler, the youngest of six children.
A 1978 graduate of Stigler High School, Godfrey received journalism degrees from Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College in Wilburton and the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
His first newspaper job out of college was as a sports writer for the Muskogee Phoenix. He later returned to school to complete a master’s degree in journalism education at the University of Central Oklahoma.
In 1986, Godfrey joined The Oklahoman staff where he has been assigned a myriad of beats during the past 25 years.
For more than a decade, Godfrey’s primary duties were covering the federal and county courthouses for The Oklahoman.
In 2002, he returned to the sports desk when he became the Outdoors Editor for The Oklahoman.
His wife, Linda Lynn, also works for The Oklahoman, heading the research and archives division. They have three children and live in Edmond.
