OKC man bags New Mexico elk

Louis Dakil of Oklahoma City with the elk he killed while bow hunting in New Mexico on Bob Funk’s ranch.
Louis Dakil, owner of Dakil Auctioneers in Oklahoma City, shared this photo of an elk he killed on his bow hunting trip last month to the Express UU Bar Ranch in Cimarron, N.M.
The ranch is owned by Bob Funk, owner of Express Ranches of Yukon.
The elk scored 313.5 inches Pope & Young and weighed approximately 900 pounds. It was a 12- or 13-year-old bull, determined by the taxidermist through observation of his teeth, Dakil said.
The ranch expressuubar.com is approximately 186,000 acres and also offers hunts for mule deer, bear, mountain lion, antelope and spring turkey.
“All hunts are wild and not guaranteed,” Dakil said. “This is one of the most prolific areas for wildlife that I have ever experienced.”
