While I would agree that the Blue is unique for the area, I would not mistake it for an Ozark clear water, pebble-bottomed stream. The water clarity and flow is trashy and slow in comparison. Also, the topography and trees are a dead give away. In Arkansas your gonna see mountains and a mixture of tall pine and hardwood trees, not the scrub at the Blue which averages about 20' tops and grows right to the cutbanks. Nevertheless, I ain't complaining. The Blue is a great asset and resource and deserves much more in resources and protection. Fed by an aquifer keeps it flushed out pretty well but all the gypsum mining and residual runoff from that and other industrial uses upstream is a big threat.

I think this is a great thing for all trout fisherman and the river. I just made my first trip to the Blue with my wife andd kids. We had a great time and brought home 15 fish between 5 of us with several trout over 12 inches. For me it reminded me of my youth and growing up flyfishing the Tucannon river in the Blue Mountains of Washington state with my dad and brothers. I hope to make a return trip soon and maybe bring one of those big boys home.
