Bass tourney at T-bird

Steve Owens, winner of the 1969 Heisman Trophy at the University of Oklahoma, will emcee the weigh-in for the bass tournament at Lake Thunderbird next month which will benefit the Thunderbird Clubhouse in Norman.

Local bass anglers can help a worthy cause by entering a bass tournament May 7 on Lake Thunderbird near Norman.
Money from the bass tournament will benefit the Thunderbird Clubhouse in Norman. Oklahoma football legend Steve Owens, a longtime clubhouse supporter, will emcee the weigh-in at Calypso Cove Marina.
The mission of the Thunderbird Clubhouse is to enhance the lives of people with mental disabilities. The clubhouse provides a place where the mentally challenged can go daily for social interaction and vocational training.
“The real intent is to get people back in society and living a normal life,” said Kris Glenn, incoming board chair for the Thunderbird Clubhouse.
The largemouth bass tournament will be divided into two categories. There will a division for serious tournament anglers that will adhere to standard tournament rules and another for casual fishermen.
Entry fee is $50 for each adult in both divisions. Cash prizes for first through third will be awarded based on the number of entries.
A big fish category with 100 percent payback is optional for an additional $10 per person. A separate kids division is free.
