Opening day of deer season in 1998 I had to go to work for an emergency meeting. Since the meeting wasn't going to last very long, I threw my rifle in the back of my SUV and left for the office around 0500 (5 a.m.). I took the country roads from south of Duncan to the highway leading to Fort Sill where I work. As I was entering a 90 degree curve with fog wetted roads, a nice buck ran across my headlights. Pure instinct caused me to flinch very slightly on the steering wheel and my vehicle spun out, the rear bumper caught the embankment and I flipped onto the roof. The vehicle was totalled and I spent opening day of gun deer season in the hospital. Ironically, it was two deer hunters headed to the field that drove up on me hanging upside down from my seatbelt (which saved my life) and called the paramedics.
